This is a startling article about a strange alliance between a theocratic cult and Trump’s friends Michael Flynn and Roger Stone. Jennifer Cohn, an expert on election integrity, digs deep into the world of Christian Dominionism and explores its philosophy. Its ambitions are vast, and it poses a threat to our secular democracy.
It begins:
On July 1, 2022, inside a packed Georgia arena, four religious leaders stood on stage as they recited a blood chilling Prayer Declaration called the “Watchman Decree”:
Whereas, we have been given legal power from heaven and now exercise our authority, Whereas, we are God’s ambassadors and spokespeople over the earth. Whereas, through the power of God we are the world influencers. Whereas, because of our covenant with God, we are equipped and delegated by him to destroy every attempted advance of the enemy, we make our declarations: … 3. We decree that our judicial system will issue rulings that are biblical and constitutional. 4. We declare that we stand against wokeness, the occult, and every evil attempt against our nation. 5. We declare that we now take back our God-given freedoms, according to our Constitution. 6. We decree that we take back and permanently control positions of influence and leadership in each of the “Seven Mountains.”
A video of the recitation (shown above) was viewed more than 3 million times on Twitter. In the replies, many people expressed horror at what they had seen. Although few were aware, they had just witnessed the fruits of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). The NAR is a rapidly accelerating and dangerously under-reported worldwide Christian authoritarian movement. It practices faith healing and exorcism and promotes dominionism, a belief that Christians must take control of government, business and culture in order for Jesus to return to earth. The men on stage included NAR apostles Dutch Sheets (who wrote the decree) and Lance Wallhau, along with two close colleagues, pastors Mario Murillo and Hank Kunneman. The fifth man, pastor Gene Bailey, hosted the event for his showFlashpoint on Victory TV, a Christian network that platforms the NAR and pro-Trump Make America Great (MAGA) influencers.

A local Baptist minister in my town wrote a rebuttal to this video, condemning it in strong language from a Christian perspective

yes, we are in day when those who stand on their convictions must speak up
Anne Nelson’s article (2-22-2021), in Washington Spectator, “How the CNP, a Republican Power house helped spawn Trumpism, disrupted the transfer of power and stoked the assault on the Capitol,” provides a good addition to Diane’s post.
After the exile in Babylon the people of Israel specially the Pharisees believed to get it right for Messiah to come back. We know how that went with control of all wrong doing against their law. Theybecame perfect to the law but rotten inside. What God sees is the heart and here we are making a new age Pharisees that miss their mark again. Love is the answer and their stand means nothing to God. As for the return of Christ the Word is clear that NOBODY knows the time or hour. I am still a Christian but these actions are simply useless

Which god? Do you have either a slow mail or email address for him/her/it? Does he/she/it use twitter?
I am still a Christian. . . .”
My condolences.
“We declare that we stand against wokeness…”
Is that from the Old Testament or the New?

These are folks who really, really care about nappie time.
The SCOTUS in the Gideon Bible decision did not allow Gideons to pass out their Bibles to kids even with parental approval. Who fought against this? other Christian religions.
Given the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, do we really want all religions fighting each other to get their Bible as exclusive? Even the Taliban may not be denied.
These Dominionists are no different from the fanatics that fought in the crusades. They are intolerant of those that are different, and they want to impose their views on others. Since they have the Supreme Court wrapped up, we will get conservative Christian interpretation in their opinions. In elections voters need to do their homework and vote for reasonable, secular leaning politicians, even if they have a religious affiliation. We need to legislate a rebuilding of the wall between religion and government. Melding the two, which appears to be where we are now, puts too many restraints on democracy. Religious freedom is guaranteed in the Constitution, but we must not allow the religious right to distort our rights to suit their agenda.
This is not new. It’s been going on for decades.
“When fundamentalist Christians read the Bible in the 20th century, something has been fundamentally changed, just in the last 50 years in particular. And that is, they’re able to open texts for the first time in 2,000 years–texts like Revelation, texts like the Book of Daniel, all the prophets–and they can begin to see the possibilities of a literal fulfillment, not a symbolic fulfillment as in the past.” …
“Christians, however, who were fundamentalist interpreters of the Bible, had a completely different take on this. It’s quite interesting. Not only did they laud and applaud the Jewish sovereignty, but they understood this as the beginning of the end, as a potential fulfillment of Bible prophecy, because in fact every scenario that you can read about in the prophets, from the Book of Revelation back to the Book of Daniel, implies that in the last days Jerusalem would be ruled and controlled not by Turks, not by British, not by all the various cultures that have controlled Jerusalem for the centuries, but by, in fact, a sovereign Jewish population. And so in fact, this was true again. Now, the big event that these interpreters were waiting for would be the rebuilding of the Temple, the so-called Third Temple.”

This fundamentalist Christ sect has donated hundred of millions of dollars toward achieving the prophecy they believe in so Armedgedon comes to pass, the world is destroyed along with all life, and then they, the true believers, will all rise to heaven because of their efforts and the rest of us won’t because we were not among those true believers.
This is a suicide cult on steroids and there end goal is to destroy all live on Earth to achieve immortality with their god, because they see themselves as their gods holy warriors.
I think the reason these fundamentalist lunatics support Traitor Trump (and probably make up the majority of his base) is because they see how evil he is. They don’t care because that evil traitor along with rasPutin, the traitors buddy and master, are the best chance they’ve got to bring on Armageddon. To reach their mystical heaven in hell, they are willing to take the rest of us with them into oblivion.
As a staunch Dalmationist, I beseech you to recognize that up until now, the Christian church has suffered from dyslexia. For two thousand years, people have been reading GOD backward. Seek out the moon. Howl at it.
Infidel!!!
The only true god is the FSM!
I am marshaling my forces to rid the Earth of Pastafarian scum! I lift my leg to you!
I am, however, devastated to learn, Duane, that I am fairly low down on the list of succession to the British monarchy. How unfair is that?
Leonard Leo (conservative Catholic) and the Koch’s Paul Weyrich (conservative Catholic) are/were the impetus and implementers of wins for theocracy. It is Leonard Leo who just got another $1.6 bil. to destroy separation of church and state.
Is the topic of NAR being used to deflect attention?
To gain insight into the political vice grip that the Catholic Church has on the nation, read the Catholic Herald’s, 8-11-2021 article, “Ruling Blocking HHS ‘transgender mandate’ called victory for conscience.” The article informs us about the Franciscan Alliance, a Catholic healthcare system employing 18,000 full and part-time workers, about the Catholic Medical Association and about the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.
Federalist Society Judge Reed O’Connor delivered the “victory”. He is back in the news this week delivering more “victories” robbing us of our freedom from religion.
This week’s ruling from Judge Reed O’Connor, “Employers don’t have to cover HIV meds if they oppose homosexual behavior.” Extrapolating from that decision, if a woman has any medical complications that can be tied, even tenuously, to pharmaceutical birth control, her employer could refuse to cover her medical care costs.
Catholic organizations are the nation’s 3rd largest employer.
several years ago I offered critical remarks about the New Apostolic Reformation, in part after reading some material about it written by acquaintances who focused on it in tbeir work, and doing some more research of my own. At the time I was a widely read blogger at Daily Kos (I rarely blog nowadays), and some of my tweeting, both about my blogging and other topics, got a fair amount a traffic, Within 24 hours I had a new follower, a twitter account of NAR. Apparently they decided they needed to monitor me. The fact that my last name is Bernstein, clearly of Jewish origin, might have had something to do with it, although I cannot be certain. Anyhow, I viewed this movement not as Christian – for most longstanding Christian sects they are heretical on many grounds – but definitely having strong elements of fascism and clearly it is real threat to the constitutional republic we have enjoyed for moe than two centuries.
