At a meeting in Tampa recently, the organization of far-right agitators called “Moms for Liberty” took aim at public schools, teachers, and curriculum. They believe their children are indoctrinated in public schools, which is utter nonsense. What is clear is that they want to indoctrinate all children into their racist, bigoted worldview.
The so-called “Moms” are terrified by teaching about racism and gender. They want the power to censor books they don’t like. They want to stifle teachers who teach the truth about American history.
Their first national conference was addressed by Fovernor Ron DeSantis, Senator Rick Scott, and Betsy DeVos, all of whom are contemptuous of public schools.
Who are the Moms for Liberty? They are the female version of the John Birch Society. The latter spied Communists everywhere. The Moms are terrified that someone might teach children that racism was and is a blight on our country.
Known largely for speaking out against mask mandates in the pandemic, demanding access to school curricula, rooting out offensive or explicit content in literature and voicing their suspicions about the pervasiveness of “woke ideology” at school board meetings across the country, members of Moms For Liberty said they now hope to expand their political influence and the scope of parental rights laws, which exist in about one third of states.
Christian parental rites laws
There, fixed.
nice one
I may be using that as a line: When parental rights turn into parental rites.
You said it better, Ciedie!
Thank you for saying what it really is. Christian parent rite laws is much more accurate. Let me add a bit more to make it even more accurate.
Theofascist Christian parental rite laws.
From what I’ve been reading, Christians/Catholics are split in the US.
There are theofascist Christians/Catholics and then Christians/Catholics that don’t agree with the theofascists pretending to be Christians/Catholics.
Moms for Liberty are theofascists, meaning false prophets and fake Christians.
“Best known as the leader who orchestrated the ‘conservative resurgence’ in America’s largest protestant denomination,” fired in 2018. (Christianity Today writing about Paige Patterson)
He was the one who thought up and drove the male only pastor edict.
According the Religious Right, they have the right to remain salient and the rest of us have the rite to remain silent.
How about right (wing) parents’ rights?
The mathematical equivalent of that: 2 rights= a wrong.
Those who are not made uncomfortable by history …
are doomed to repeat it.
Here we go again …
“Those who repeatedly repeat history, each time expecting a different outcome, are doomed to repeat it again — and that makes them insane” — Albert Einstein
Whatever Bob Shepherd says about this, or anything else. –Albert Einstein
I concur with Albert about that. –Abraham Lincoln
VOTERS BEWARE: The “Mons for Liberty” candidates running for your local school boards are part of a “kamikaze” group that are out to destroy public schools by freely mixing religion and politics in an attempt to control the public school curriculum ! They are a divisive right-wing group that strives to demonize and privatize public education in favor of vouchers, charters, etc. VOTERS BEWARE !!!!!!!
Here’s the thing. If Moms for Liberty don’t like the public schools, they can choose not to send their children there. It’s really quite simple.
In my area we’ve had this group desperately trying to establish a foothold. Interesting to watch which candidates for office choose to stand with them.
The hilarious thing? By and large, most of them, including their school board candidates DON’T send their kids to public schools. Their own are mostly in parochial or private charter schools.
Whenever community is targeted by this band of vandals, the caring members of the community should divide up the neigborhoods and do a door-to-door appeal to the sane residents of the community. When a group is not backed by billionaire dark money, it has to make up the difference in shoe leather. This is how AOC won her first election. If they want to get out the vote without an advertising budget, the personal approach will give the best chance of defeating these radical extremists.
Great advice, RT.
EXCELLENT observations and suggestions
How about re-naming them “Moms for Biberty?’ (As in Cinderella’s “Bibety, Bobety, Boo.”)
I know. It makes about as much sense as their actual, oxymoronic name…because they are morons.
If you add an “r”, you make the point that they are bribed to betray other women.
Right wing men continue to position women to betray other women. Public education jobs have been the primary route for women to reach financial independence. The Moms for Liberty who aren’t making book for themselves are either resentful of women who have jobs with benefits or they’ve bought into conservative religion. The largest protestant religion and the Catholic Church prohibit women from leadership roles. When those churches want to advance an anti-woman agenda they put the face of women on their campaigns. National Right to Life, Americans for Life and Moms for Liberty- all the same.
God will forgive your sins.
