Remember the Norman Rockwell of the lady teacher standing in front of her classroom of children.
Here she is, reconfigured for Trump’s America.
This is sad, pathetic, sick, but to the point! (I could have said “on target” but will refrain.)

I was talking to someone at lunch the other day and he said if this keeps up, the entire world outside of the U.S. will have to join together to stop the U.S. from killing everyone.
What am I talking about?
Trump’s bigger nuclear button
the massive increase in military spending

starting the cold war again by modernizing the nuclear arsenal
the suggestion by Trump and the NRA that we arm 3.2 million classroom teachers in the public schools
Trump wanting a military parade similar to the USSR and North Korea, as if Trump thinks he is dictator-for-life of the U.S.
Despite recently closing hundreds of bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States still maintains nearly 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories abroad—from giant “Little Americas” to small radar facilities. Britain, France and Russia, by contrast, have about 30 foreign bases combined versus China that has ONE, only ONE. Even Russia only has TEN.

The U.S. is the world’s largest producer and seller of weapons to the world. The U.S. private sector weapons industry even sells weapons to nations listed by the U.S. State Department as enemies of the U.S.

I’ll stop here. I could probably keep adding to this list all day and never finish.

Dear Diane,
I find this cartoon to be devastating, infuriating, poignant, and more, some of which I have no words to describe. With all due respect for you — meaning an infinite amount — “hilarious” could not be among these words. Not when I recall that the proximate inspiration (as it were) for the cartoon is the slaughter of 17 people in a public school, think of the little children murdered in Newtown, and shudder in fear and shake with fury at the prospect of more thoughts, prayers, and robot repetitions of “This is not the time” by so-called lawmakers whom I consider accessories to mass murder.
Thank you for hearing me out.
With undiminished esteem,
Bill Rosenthal

Bill, maybe a better choice of words would be “brilliant satire.”

I want an actual advocate for public school families to set federal safety policy for our schools.
Betsy DeVos does not represent public school families, and since any policy DC comes up will be applied to PUBLIC SCHOOLS I want an advocate at the table.
They focus exclusively on charter and private schools. Why do they get to weigh in at all on public schools?
None of these DeVos-crafted “solutions” will apply to the private schools she favors and promotes anyway.
Can we get one person in DC who has some interest in public schools, since we’re stuck with their plans for our schools? A passionate advocate for PUBLIC school families. One is all I ask.

That is a horrible picture but it certainly gets the message across. Wish the major papers and magazines would run this on the front pages.

Editorial cartoons have been powerful in our history. They spoke volumes as thought provoking as the written editorials at their side. (I even think they are on standardized tests on author’s purpose, inference, literary analysis..)
It’s the difference between JohnbOliver and Seth Myers and all the rest. It’s the difference between Saturday Night Live skits and SNL News.
And – it’s time for the COMEDIANS TO STOP. THIS IS NOT FUNNY. It hasn’t been since the first days when president bullied opponents, disrespected Medal of Honor parents and disabiled individuals, labeled and baited our enemies, and lied and changed his mind after the photo op to appease dreamers and others.
JUST ONCE I would like to see Alec Baldwin stop in the middle of a skit – see Jimmy Fallon and the others stop in the middle of a joke – look the camera in the eye and say “We’re done making a buffoon out of this man – it’s not funny anymore – and we’ve become numb to his machinations because no one takes him seriously anyway”
