Paul Thomas analyzes the latest plan to save the D.C. Public schools, this one prepared by a law firm on behalf of City Councilmember David Catania. Thomas finds that it is just as innovative, perhaps even more innovative, than past innovations. On the other hand, it might be somewhat less innovative than past innovations. But what is clear is that it uses all the same tools, the same carrots and sticks, as past innovations. At least, the Councilman says, he is trying. That’s innovative too. Or is it?

Remember when we used to complain no one paid attention to education?
Man, those were the days!

How is it that someone who helps to destroy a system and creates chaos is now supposed to fix it. This reminds me of the financial mess with those who destroyed it now supposed to fix it. That can never happen as it has certainly not in fact it has become worse as D.C. is. This is the natural order As Einstein said “Insanity is repeating a failed experiment over and over again expecting a different answer which will never happen.”
D.C. schools have $29,145/student. How do you mess up with that kind of money which is far above any other public school district in the U.S. and yet they are at the bottom in student performance any way you want to look at it. Why, you have to try real hard. Remember Bush “Good job Brownie” on Katrina. What is the difference here. And a law firm yet with no knowledge of education why that make a lot of sense doesn’t it? Why that is simply brilliant and why didn’t we think of this answer before I will never understand. I guess they know something we do not know.
