I follow whatever is posted by the Meidas brothers. They do a great job of pulling together clips from the campaign, to show you what’s happening.
This series of clips is an eye opener. It’s frankly disgusting to see the racist, anti-immigrant appeals that Trump and his surrogates deliver to the voters.
We used to pride ourselves on being a nation of immigrants. Now Trump wants us to see immigrants as murderers, rapists, and criminals.
He says he will invoke a law passed in 1798 to round-up millions of immigrants and deport them. Is this The Final Solution?
Can he be elected by serving up a steady diet of hatred and fear?

Personally, I think that people who can’t realize how abnormal it is, for someone wanting to have the nuclear codes and be ruler of our nation (and the free world), to be playing music and dancing at a Town Hall for 57 minutes ought to have their heads examined. This is the sick grandpa at Thanksgiving dinner who families have to be sure to keep the carving knife away from –or else… https://www.rawstory.com/trump-town-hall-2669402467/

I couldn’t bring myself to watch more than a few minutes of the Meidas video showing the crazies riling up the tRump crowd initially, but after seeing a bit more, I’d like to point out that I think what the little girl on stage was talking about regarding kids acting like cats is Anime. I learned about that years ago from my college students and since then I’ve known a number of people of varying ages who are into it. While it’s different and not something of interest to me personally, I don’t think it’s the damning past time those folks would have us believe. And other than originating in Japan, it has nothing to do with immigrants.

For those unfamiliar with Anime, it’s not just about watching animated characters. There are a lot of books and online games, as well as many conferences & conventions that people into Anime like to attend, where they can wear costumes of different Anime characters, including animals. (I’ve never been there myself but I know folks who have and I’ve seen their costumes –which some people make themselves.) I think of it as being similar to Halloween but throughout the year for people who like to dress up. They can also meet others who are into that there.
As with everything else, kids who are into Anime need to be taught to respect boundaries, like when and where it’s appropriate to act that out and to not harm others, including not scratching people with their nails.

Silly me, the day after I posted the info above about Anime, I realized that I failed to mention what the accompanying dress-up is called –and then I forgot to add it! I just remembered, so here you go: it’s CosPlay (Costume Play)

He is relying on the latent hatred and fear of his followers to propel him back into the White House. It should be a breaking point to stop him, but there are too many brainwashed people in this country. I cannot fathom how any person of color, especially, feels trump is fit to lead this country. The christo-fascist (I cannot label these people Christian by any stretch of my imagination) love him in the name of their god. His acceptance defies all logic and ethics.

This election would not be so close if we had better informed, more discerning electorate. Somebody needs to get through to the younger men of all backgrounds that seem to have very little understanding of what is at stake in this country. They see Trump as a “smart, successful guy, a man’s man.” Trump and Miller will turn this country into 1930s Germany, if given the chance.

it’s been 1930’s Germany for the past 4 years. The growing antisemitism and censoring has proven that.

Harry,
IF Trump didn’t hang out with Nazis, there would be less anti-Semitism. He constantly welcomes and legitimizes Nazis. His talk of prosecuting his “enemies” sounds eerily like Hitler.
Did you read about Lara and Eric Trump’s boat parade in Florida, which included guys flying Nazi flags?

simple answer: of course fear works.
From American history:
the know-nothings gained significant power suggesting that Catholic immigrants posed a threat to religious practice. (They did not)
Free-soilers eventually became the new Republican Party in 1854 claiming that the extension of slavery into the territories acquired in the Mexican War would spread plantations to these regions, robbing free holders of the opportunity to gain land.(this would not have occurred, notwithstanding the evil of slavery and the political unbalance it created)
Another anti-immigration period in the post World War I period led to the Republican domination of the federal government in the 20s. People feared Eastern European immigrants, even as they made significant money selling them mutton and using their labor to build the industrial juggernaut that would last out the Great Depression and be guided toward defeating the most dangerous tyrants in history, Hitler and Stalin.
Joe McCarthy. Need I say more.
Richard Nixon. Fear was his all.
Not to mention recent gains in far right parties in Europe, where unsettled policy in the Middle East disrupted the lives of so many and sent migrants into Europe.

The 1798 law that T***p aspires to invoke explicitly and unambiguously applies only in the case of a declared war with a foreign nation. This requirement won’t stop him, of course. Then a federal district court will stay his executive action, a federal circuit court will uphold the stay, and a federal Supreme Court will remove it pending a hearing sometime in the 23rd Century.

You ask if this is the Final Solution. My answer is a resounding and deeply tragic ‘yes.’ I’ve taught the Holocaust for most of my teaching career and I can easily see that this is where we’re headed. There were warning signs all over the place during the days of the Koch-sponsored, astroturfed Tea Party era of Obama. I absolutely loathed and could not stand the Godwin’s Law tactic in our political coverage but there is definitely no shred of any doubt left that Trump is *OUR* American Hitler–he has finally arrived. I fear this coming election day. There will be civil unrest no matter who wins and loses.

Cubans, like with immigrants who came from Communist countries in Eastern Europe, mostly became Republicans after arriving here, as in Florida, because they thought that meant less government interference in people’s personal lives. You’d think that by now, they would realize how false that actually is.

That is a rather anodyne way of putting it.
There were concrete, blood-fueled reasons for Cubans to leave after Castro (just as there are concrete, blood-fueled reasons Cubans try to escape Cuba to this day).
Imprisonment and/or death are much more than government “interference”.

The GOP has been preaching “small government” and bashing the federal government ever since Milton Friedman. Today, right wing extremists constantly lie about and promote conspiracies surrounding the federal government to undermine it. It is happening in North Carolina to FEMA’s hurricane response.

Fear of imprisonment and death are usually reasons for leaving totalitarian regimes, not typically the cause of choosing a political party in a democratic republic. This is what people told me was why they chose to be Republicans after they came to America and became naturalized citizens. Cubans and Eastern Europeans both said the same thing, and some added that it was also because that was the party of Lincoln.

BTW, this occurred after Nixon implemented his “Southern Strategy,” which was necessary since, after the Civil War, racists refused to be Republicans because that was the party of Lincoln. Hence, after the Civil Rights Act was passed by Congress under southern Democratic President Lyndon Johnson, Nixon realized that Republicans needed to get those voters out of the Democratic party and into the GOP. (And I was constantly having to explain how the parties had changed.)

I don’t remember anyone complaining publicly about the hordes of Eastern Europeans, from Communist countries, who came here in the last decades of the 20th century, like two of tRump’s three wives. I taught young children in the very diverse neighborhood where many of them landed in my city and a number of them were teachers who I had to repeatedly report for slapping kids, pulling their ears, etc. They didn’t come across as being more civilized than people I worked with from other immigrant groups. Yet there’s no way tRump would call them out for coming from sh*t-hole countries –no doubt because they were white & mostly Christian (though they weren’t allowed to practice their religions under Communism). It’s clearly a different standard for white immigrants.

The immigrants I know on the East End of Long Island work very hard as farm workers, in construction, in restaurant kitchens, and as house cleaners. They work very hard, much harder than you, Harry, or me. They don’t leech off the taxpayers. They pay taxes and they get no benefits. They want to be part of our culture.
Why do you hate them, Harry. Aren’t you descended from immigrants? I am. I’m proud of it. Is it because they aren’t white like you?

I’m not against the good immigrants who come in legally and better themselves as well as the nation. It’s the bad ones who leech off the taxpayers while some are committing crimes. They should be deported. Stop playing that dumb “race card” bit. It’s a worn out tactic.

Harry,
I’m telling you I know undocumented immigrants who are good citizens, work hard, pay taxes, and take the jobs that few Americans want. They do NOT leech off taxpayers because they are not eligible for any benefits.
Would you work in a meat packing plants? Would you pick crops in the blazing sun? Would you work in a hotel cleaning guest rooms? Would you work in a restaurant washing dishes in the kitchen?
Which Americans want these jobs? Not me. Not my children. Do you?

I’m wondering if those “undocumented” migrants are being exploited by their employers to work for slave wages under the table, so they don’t have to pay taxes, and their employers don’t have to pay the benefits. This is against the law isn’t it?
I did work dirty menial jobs in my younger years, like many kids did in my day. Today’s spoiled little babies won’t touch those jobs. They spend their time on social media and protesting, while racking up huge student loan debts on useless curriculums. They’ll work service counter jobs, then cry they can’t pay off those loans, so us taxpayers get to foot the bill. Thanks Joe!!

Harry,
I don’t know what their wages are. If it’s the federal minimum wage, they are paid $7.25 an hour. Could you live in that?
Did you work in a dangerous meatpacking plant? Immigrants do that, and some have lost hands, arms, their lives?
Have you ever worked on a farm, picking crops when it’s 100 degrees?
Did your “dirty menial jobs” include washing dishes in the kitchen of a restaurant?
Did you make beds in a hotel?
Did you work in construction? Did you put on roofs without any safety equipment?
I didn’t. Did you?

The minimum wage is irrelevant to an undocumented worker. An undocumented worker takes what he or she gets.
“My boss isn’t paying me, an undocumented immigrant, the legal minimum wage.”
“And your name sir?”
“Uh, can I get back to you on that?”
“Where are you RIGHT NOW, sir?”

Undocumented immigrants commit far fewer crimes than American-born citizens do. Which is only logical – if you’re here illegally, you don’t want to attract government attention.
Relatedly, undocumented citizens do not get benefits that citizens can, such as unemployment insurance or welfare. So I’m not sure what you mean by suggesting they are a drain on our resources.
And the dirtiest secret is how many Americans knowingly, or with willful ignorance, employ the undocumented. In the South many farmers depend on undocumented labor. Without them, our food would be MUCH more expensive.
It’s not just America. Undocumenteds work in every European country as well, doing work the citizens won’t.
If you could not feed your family, or insure their safety where you are, what would you do? The lion’s share of the money undocumenteds make goes to their countries of origin to feed the families they left behind.
I mentioned on a previous occasion how an undocumented citizen cleared a murder case. This was on the West Side of Chicago. The murder occurred in broad daylight in front of numerous witnesses. The citizen witnesses “didn’t see nothing”. Thanks to two enterprising tactical officers, this witness came forward. He was terrified, but he was also compelled by his morals to talk to us and make sure the murder was solved. Without him, a very bad guy, who shot the victim in front of many fellow citizens confident no one would talk, is doing natural life now. (And his background more than justified the sentence.)

There were immigrants where I worked from a lot of other parts of the globe as well. We were all required by our state to have college degrees for the work that we did, so everybody had them, though I was the only American-born teacher there for many years and mine were the only degrees from this country. We were all paid just minimum wage, too (with no benefits), despite our degrees and experience –back when that was a VERY, VERY low income, and a number of us worked there for decades.
