This disgruntled parent makes sense and speaks the truth. The reason Miles is in Houston is because the city is a “big blue dot in a big red state,” and Abbot is retaliating against them. Miles is the appointed hitman for Abbott that wants to monetize the minority majority schools in the state and deny them any democratic input. https://hechingerreport.org/state-takeovers-of-failing-schools-are-increasing-but-with-little-evidence-they-help-students/

“And area state legislator Harold Dutton, a Democrat and Wheatley graduate, wrote the language in the 2015 law authorizing takeovers of a district if one of its schools fails for five years running. He told local outlets that he doesn’t regret creating the provision, though he never thought a takeover would happen in Houston because the district would fix Wheatley.”

Ed,
Wheatley did improve and the state took over the district anyway.

She is absolutely right – HoustonISD will be worse off when Mike Miles gets finished; just as DallasISD was worse off at the end of his destructive tenure here. Abbott and Mike Morath should be ashamed of themselves for foisting this non-educator; non-child advocate on the children and citizens of Houston!!! Thanks to the parent for raising this very righteous alarm!

Lauren Ashley appeared before a Houston school group. Agreed, she was great. The evil she is fighting is a concerted, right wing campaign found throughout the state of Texas and the nation.
Recently, when Harlan Crow, Clarence Thomas’ benefactor, wanted to craft the University of Texas through a conservative lens, for advice, he contacted Robert P George of Princeton, the drafter of the Manhattan Declaration and the co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage (John Eastman is /was NOM’s chairman of the board and, the Koch-linked Cleta Mitchell was NOMs lawyer). The Texas Tribune asked George for comment. He didn’t reply.
The Salem Center, in the business school of the University of Texas, is mentioned in the Tribune article. The Center recently chose Richard Hanania to lead one of it programs. He is the subject of an investigative report by Huffpo, posted last week. Hanania is scheduled for a seminar at Stanford in Oct. at the Classical Liberalism Initiative. Oddly, the seminar lists him as with Columbia, a school that he graduated from instead of his current employment in the University of Texas.

Huffington Post did an amazing investigative article on Richard Hanania. In 2008 Hanania wrote under the pseudonym “Richard Hoste” for several vile white supremacist, fascist & neo-Nazi magazines. He was recruited by Richard Spencer, avowed neo-Nazi who organized the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, shortly after Trump took office.
His entire career is built around racist ideologies. Yet is lionized by Silicon Valley & US Senator J.D. Vance; been invited to pen op-eds for the NYTimes & WAPO. A group of tech billionaires & millionaires are heavily invested in Hanania. He heads an obscure “Think Tank” which describes itself as “interested in funding scholars studying woke attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors,” (Woke is clearly an “ideology” defined by its lack of definition -pure BS.)
Why are these news outlets not calling out Hanania for his BS?

Many of us are concerned about the future environment if Republicans are elected. Those who belong to families like Chester Finn’s…. (Finn is associated with Hoover.)
Tech tyrants have proven that in pursuit of assets, boundaries don’t exist.
And, Republicans have shown us that they will rationalize even the overthrow of our government.

Hey, Josh, did you see that Ron DeSantis acknowledged that Trump lost the election? Trump is a liar. You know that, right?

Media reported that funding organized by Khalid Philip Salem (of a Lebanese family) enabled the expansion of the Salem Center at the University of Texas (Hanania’s Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology is located there).
At Linked In we can read that Khalid Salem is an “active member of a national network funded by Charles Koch….connecting, providing resources and educational opportunities to social entrepreneurs.” He is also involved in the ACE scholarships that have a connection to the Waltons.
Hanania posted an interview with Amy Wax, “The feminization of the academy has been a total disaster.”

Is there a reason you want an American redo of the Great Hunger in Ireland when 1,000,000 Irish starved to death? The economic policies at the time were similar to the Koch right wing prescriptions today. In Ireland, the Catholic Church relied on the desperation of poverty (no birth control) to keep the Irish from fighting against their economic overlords. Today, the Catholic Church promotes the GOP agenda.
In Ohio, the Catholic Church has thrown its resources behind the passage of Issue 1 which will eviscerate democracy in the state, what’s left of it, after GOP gerrymandering.
Jefferson warned, in every age, in every country, the priest aligns with the despot.

First, there were BATS, Badass Teachers. Now, there’s a BAP. I hope there are more BAPS, not the kind of BAPS Robert Townsend joked about, but Badass Parent BAPS. Or maybe Mothers Against Drunk on power Driving. Corporate reformster Broadies don’t listen to parents or anyone for that matter, but one badass can unite a community against and overcome a Boadie. “My first question is when are you leaving.” Miles will never answer. Answer that question for him.

Stopping by School Boards on a Summer’ evening”
Whose schools these are
I think I know
Their house is in the village though
They will not see me stopping here
To see their children learn and grow
We Houston parents have a fear
That Miles was foisted on us here
By governor Abbot and his PACs
A spiteful crowd without a peer
It’s plain as day, these are attacks
On public schools, by charter hacks
Directed by a rightwing creep
A flashing light, on railroad tracks
The fight is up hill, very steep
But I have promises to keep
And Miles to boot before I sleep
And Miles to boot before I sleep
