Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma vetoed state funding for PBS, accusing the public television network of
Gov. Kevin Stitt, R-Okla., recently vetoed a bill that would continue funding for the statewide PBS station, claiming that the national network has been indoctrinating young children with LGBTQ propaganda.
During a press conference last week, the Republican lawmaker defended his decision to veto ongoing funding for the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA), the state network of public broadcasting service affiliates.
OETA broadcasts PBS, which now includes LGBTQ content in some of its programming. The governor pointed to that as the main reason he signed the veto last Wednesday.
Governors are not “lawmakers”. It would be nice if the press would familiarize itself with how our government(s) are actually organized.
That is not the main point of this item. The main point is that this is another Fascist move by governors just like Stiff.
Where did I say this was the main point? It’s a reflection of how little people learn about the country that they live in. This is a blog about education, I believe.
Obviously Kevin Stitt, the Governor of Oklahoma, does not believe in the first amendment, freedom of speech. He problems believes it when, under Citizens United, rich people give him millions of dollars in “good” speech. When public television shares truth, like all good fanciest s he must SILENCE speech he doesn’t like.
This guy has a mental health issue!
Once again we see the fundamental idiocy of the conservative/Republican project. You simply can’t stand in the road blocking human development while shouting, as William F. Buckley wished, shouting “Halt!” Because if you try to stand still, you will only move backward.
Life moves in one direction. You can grow or you can die. Which is one of many reasons Republicans are a death cult.
If he’s just talking about the schlock Christmas specials (The Dutch pop conductor, the Irish Kardashians and Harry Potter-esque electric bands with lots of lights and fake snow come to mind), I could do without even the nanoseconds they are on if I’m flipping channels. They make a greatest hits episode from Firing Line appealing.
I don’t think Governor Stitt objects to the music of the 50s.
I assume he hates the documentaries about racism and other injustices.
But he sure don’t want people to know about Tulsa. And Harlem from the 1930s would O-fend him for sure.
These Repub-Fascists just keep getting more radical and more determined to end our democratic republic that has lasted for over two centuries. What we need is to draw up some overdue Constitutional Amendments to do such things a repealing the Second Amendment, Ending the crazy Electoral College System that allows unpopulated open land to have a vote. Use a weighted voting system that would give representatives from US House districts giving representatives from house districts with larger populations than the representatives from states with the smallest population than the standard house districts a heavier vote that each representative represents the same number of votes cast in the general election, or go back to making more house districts so each district represents the same number of voters, even if that means we have to build a larger chamber for the house of representatives. I’m sick of my vote in Michigan being only worth 26% of a vote cast by a voter in Wyoming for both a Representative in the House of Representatives and for the the President of the United States of America. It is well pass time when everyone’s vote cast in any election for any national office carried the same weight. It is this crazy election system that is weighted toward states with small populations gives the Repub-Fascists the power to control our nation.
