CNBC published a list of the 10 worst states in which to live.
These are factors that should be considered by businesses before relocating.
The rankings considered: Crime rates, air quality, healthcare access, worker protections, and civil rights laws…among factors that can hurt a state in quality of life rankings.
Tennessee ranks as the worst state. Texas is the second worst.
These are the 10 best states in which to live.
Nebraska ranks #1.
It also ranked #1 in the Network for Public Education’s report card on states that support public education.

Considering that the Rethugs have had control of all aspects of the Show Me state gubmint for 20+ years it should come as no surprise to see us on this list. And most are xtian nationalist theofascists to boot!

And yet, in a Missouri whose politicians are clawing their way toward the dystopian politics of Tennessee, an outsider who met Duane Swacker would say Missouri is a really wonderful state. Somewhere in all this there is room for a return to civility.

I think generalization my about political geography has little point. Remember the phrase: All politics is local. There are places in Tennessee where good people make a bad situation work. Even the horrific institution of slavery had islands of humanity in it. (Slavery advocates used these stories to justify their institutions, but that is another story). There are islands of repression in places where an overarching structure that is mostly positive. George Floyd was murdered in a place where strong public support for fair treatment for all is very strong. But politics is local, in Floyd’s experience, tragically individual.
So let’s not rank things like schools and communities and states.
