After the massacre at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February, several students emerged as national spokespersons for the anti-gun movement. One of them, David Hogg, helped organize the “March for Our Lives” in D.C., which drew 800,000 people to the nation’s capitol. Hogg became a target for right-wingers and NRA shills.
When he admitted that he had been turned down by four California universities, FOX talk show host Laura Ingraham mocked him as a “whiner.”
This was not a good move for Ingraham.
In March, he told TMZ about his rejection letters he’d received from four California colleges, which came as he organized a movement he said was “changing the world.”
Mocking Hogg’s comments, Fox News host Laura Ingraham tweeted a story from a conservative news website that described the teen as a “Gun Rights Provocateur” — and said Hogg was whining.
“David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it,” Ingraham tweeted. “(Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA … totally predictable given acceptance rates.)”
Hogg responded on Twitter, where his number of followers has surpassed 900,000. He compiled a list of 12 companies that advertise on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”
In a matter of days, Ingraham lost more than a dozen advertisers, including Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Hulu, Jenny Craig, Ruby Tuesday and Miracle-Ear.
David Hogg was just accepted into Harvard.
Payback is a bitch.
Congratulations, David!
David Hogg is probably too good for Harvard. I am happy, however, that he is being rewarded for his maturity and determination to make positive change in our damaged society.
SNL’s Kate McKinnon does a great Ingraham:
First, here she is in the aftermath of the Hogg controversy:
( “… the First Amendment — that’s my right to bully people without being bullied in return.” … and of course, the new advertisers replacing those who withdrew from her show)
Here’s two more:
Tweets have consequences!
🙂
Enjoy a momentary feel good that these companies withdrew advertizing. Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Hulu, Jenny Craig, Ruby Tuesday and Miracle-Ear.
And congratulations to David.
Bravo to David Hogg, the young man did not give up in the face of so much hostility, venomous attacks, outright smears and lies against his character from the right wing filth that have infested this country for decades. He was even accused of not being there on the day of the shooting and of being a crisis actor. With Trump as President, lies, fabrications and slander have become the norm. Nothing new for the far right wing media such as Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, Savage, Lionel, Alex Jones, Hugh Hewitt, Ben Shapiro, Coulter, D’Souza, Roger Stone, Bannon, Jerome Corsi, etc., ad nauseam. They’ve been spreading lies and disinformation for decades; remember their campaign of lies against John Kerry, turning an actual war hero into a fake, phony and fraud, which he was not (as far as his military service goes). These right wing liars seem to get away with their smears and slander unscathed though hopefully the law suits against Alex jones will bankrupt him for the next century. Limbaugh has been vomiting up his propaganda for 30 years, he should be in jail for fraud or he should have been taken off the radio by his bosses, if they had morals and standards. The bosses at these radio stations are just as bad, if not worse, than Limbaugh.
love it…
This payback is beautiful. Congratulations, David Hogg. We need more young people like him!!
I think the correct spelling is beeyatch.
I wonder who’s whining now.
Ingraham – infamous for telling women to refrain from work outside of the home, demanding that other females, not her, render themselves dependent on husbands. Meanwhile she advances her career and right-wing brand… Republicans cornering the market on hypocrisy.
I always thought that was one of the ironies of women such as Phyllis Schlafly. She was someone who became very educated and then worked full-time outside the home, where at her organization, she promoted the primary message that it was a bad idea for women to … wait for it … become educated and work outside the home.
And, like Ohio’s Republican Sen. Portman who promoted anti-gay legislation, she and Rob both had gay sons. How horrible it must have been for the boys.
NOBODY is done with David Hogg, nor is he done with anyone or should be.
Watch easily within less than 8 years that he will be running for office somewhere on some level and will elevate himself politically with tens of millions of followers.
Go David!
David will always beat Goliath! I’m a David Hogg fan . . . He’s a product of public schools.
Well said, Robert.
Look for Emma Gonzalez. She’s no shrinking violet either. If it has to take a group of teenagers to help Washington D.C. grow up and act like adults, so be it . . . .
Laura Ingraham spoke too much and thought too little. She’d be hard pressed to have even a dog food company endorse her.
It’s such a stark contrast when you think about it: Ingraham, a middle aged bag-of-wind radio celebrity, full of puffery, style, and little substance juxtaposed with David and Emma, two youths who have experienced life more fully, richly and profoundly than Ingraham could ever dream of. Ingraham stands for hypocrisy, self-enrichment and opportunism; Hogg and Gonzalez live, breathe and eat virtue and selflessness for the collective whole.
It takes a bunch of kids . . . .
Well stated!!!
Absolutely. They give me hope. Take care.
I will agree that SAT scores aren’t everything but a 1270 when the bottom quartile are in the higher 1400s? Harvard can accept any student they deem worthy. They are a private institution. But this is more political than academic on Harvard’s part. Hogg isn’t an academic superstar. At a high school that gives 5.0 for honors and 6.0 for AP courses, a 4.2 GPA is mediocre. I simply feel sorry for classmates that he might hold back, classmates that, academically at least, earned their place. He will be a very little fish, indeed.
Private institutions set their own criteria. David Hogg won’t hold anyone back. He is a superstar.
It was an interesting and giggly, silly try on your behalf, “Free”, but I’m afraid Free is shackled with the very limited thinking that scores define the intellect of a human. They do in some ways; they don’t overall.
David Hogg has emotional, social, political, and courage-ridden intelligence and skills most of us can only aspire to. He’s walking the walking rather than just talking the talk.
You, Free, would be lucky to have 1/20 of his abilities. If you have them, they certainly don’t show up in your premise . . . .
David Hogg got good grades but with all his public appearances on the media and some articles he wrote, he also demonstrated an incredible eloquence, poise, wisdom, advanced verbal and intellectual abilities way beyond his years. In all his appearances, he handled himself very well with total aplomb, even though he was in the spotlight and under the microscope; his every utterance was scrutinized and parsed to the nth degree. Not to mention he demonstrated great debate skills. No wonder Harvard wanted to grab him. “Free” may be suffering from Laura Ingraham syndrome, i.e., attack, attack, attack and then attack some more. That’s the far right wing way. When right wingers get caught in a lie, misstatement or botched hyperbole, they never apologize (or they make a phony non-apology), they just go on a renewed attack.
Sorry everybody. I agree with Free. David Hogg should not have been accepted to Harvard. A 1270 on the SAT is well below the average score for Harvard. He’s taking a spot from another kid who probably worked harder in school and was just as deserving.
As a private institution, that’s Harvard’s decision to make.
He has accomplished more in his short life than many Harvard graduates in a lifetime.
On this site, we don’t think that test scores measure what matters most: character, persistence, the ability to turn thought into action. The SAT measures test prep for the SAT.
George “W” Bush had every advantage and reportedly his score was 1170 on the SAT. His father was quoted as saying he got his son into Harvard. “W” bragged about earning his way into Harvard until he learned otherwise. The clueless rich and privileged.
But, Natalie, it doesn’t bother you when a Kushner of a Bush gets in legacy admission college without merit, does it? Republicans perfect hypocrisy.
George W went to Yale, but you are right, he was a “legacy” who was admitted because of his family connections.
Jared Kushner went to Harvard. He was admitted after his father (who did not go to Harvard) gave Harvard over $2 million the year before Jared applied. The story appeared in a book by Daniel Golden called “The Price of Admission.” Kushner came from a Jewish school in New Jersey, and many far better qualified students than him were rejected. Here is Golden’s story of Kushner’s admission: https://www.propublica.org/article/the-story-behind-jared-kushners-curious-acceptance-into-harvard
Hi Linda,
I’m not sure why you are bringing up Republicans. Of course it bothers me when a Bush or Kushner get in without merit. If Kushner scored that low, I don’t think he should have been accepted either. Likewise children of wealthy or well-connected Democrats shouldn’t have advantages either. According to the Washington Post, Gore got into Harvard with a 1355 SAT score. compared with Bush’s 1206 total. Neither had stellar scores and both seemed to have benefited from
their connections. “In his sophomore year at Harvard, Gore’s grades were lower than any semester recorded on Bush’s transcript from Yale. That was the year Gore’s classmates remember him spending a notable amount of time in the Dunster House basement lounge shooting pool, watching television, eating hamburgers and occasionally smoking marijuana. His grades temporarily reflected his mildly experimental mood, and alarmed his parents. He received one D, one C-minus, two C’s, two C-pluses and one B-minus, an effort that placed him in the lower fifth of the class for the second year in a row.” Linda, I hope you will also agree that neither side should get in without merit.
Comparison of scores is humorous in many respects since some schools choose candidates with other qualities that may enhance and offer positives in other respects,
And yes, Ingraham did apologize but that satisfy many —
BUT BUT the real humorous aspect to this conversation is the idea that although Hogg is heading to Harvard despite an SAT score of 1270. The bottom 25% at Harvard have an average SAT score of 1460,” College Fix noted.
BUT BUT here it comes folks – RESEARCH didn’t happen to this pampered pup of the anti gun lovers —
“ I’ll be attending Harvard in the fall with a planned major in Political Science,”
BUT BUT it looks like Hogg might have to change his plans.
Harvard does not offer an undergraduate major in political science. Hogg must not have done his homework. He will have to do study for 4 years and apply The graduate program of the Department of Government is designed to train students for careers in university teaching and advanced research in political science. The department does not offer an independent master’s program, the master of arts in political science being reserved for PhD candidates on the way to their final degrees.
jscheidell, you are wrong. Harvard has an undergraduate degree in government (aka political science).
Why do you hate David Hogg so much?
He is a boy. A very brilliant and talented boy who organized a rally for 800,000 people.
Never hated him
Hate is the acid that will destroy the soul
And some here should consider that when their enmity towards Trump and his policies
Dislike Hoggs stand on the issue and his eloquence and thought as he throws out “the “f” bombs for cogent thoughts
He will succeed at Harvard but like your “distate for MAGA the man and what he stands for I inturn only dislike the politics not the “boy”
You are jealous of David Hogg, as Laura Ingraham is, which is why you write again and again to ridicule him, not his anti-gun views–which by the way, are shared by a majority of the American people. I expect that if you saw a dozen or more of your friends gunned down, you might share his views.
The same people who hate David Hogg also hate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes and write vicious tweets about her. Why? She won her district fair and square. Yet they ridicule her hair, her shoes, her looks, and make her out to be a cartoon character. This behavior reeks of jealousy, fear, or both. She will be one of 435 members of the House. She has guts and brains, a fearsome combination.
Diane,
Your last paragraph is a good place to flip Trump in the slot for Cortes – we find many write write vicious tweets about him. Why? He won his election constitutionally fair and square. Yet many ridicule his hair, looks, behavior and make him out to be a cartoon character. This behavior reeks of jealousy, fear, or both. He has guts and brains, a fearsome combination.
Jealousy – NO – The young man will be successful at Harvard – surrounded by the liberal left professors that abound there.
Harvard in their online comments note offer more than”3,700 courses in 50 undergraduate fields of study, which we call concentrations. Many of our concentrations are interdisciplinary.
Your plan of study is individualized to meet your academic goals, and there is no predetermined curriculum—even during your freshman year, with the exception of the Expository Writing 20 course that is required of all freshmen.
If your academic goals are best met through a unique, personalized field of study, you have the flexibility to craft your own special concentration. You may also choose to include a secondary field in your plan of study.”

Political Science degree is noted at the graduate level – hope he selects courses to meet his needs at the undergrad
Jscheidell,
People ridicule Trump because he is a braggart and a liar.
His administration is in chaos because no one can work for him if they have a shred of decency.
He ridicules people he doesn’t like, which is everyone but the uneducated.
He is a racist, amisogynist, a xenophobic.
He takes narcissism to a new level.
His ignorance of history is unparalleled.
He attacks our allies and is a toady to our adversaries.
Have I forgotten anything?
Oh, yes, he paid off his paramours while his new born child was just a few months old.
