Nixon should have been impeached, convicted, and imprisoned for this treason which cost many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lives.
Reagan’s CIA chief, William Casey, and George H.W. Bush, did a similar thing in October, 1980: The October Surprise: https://consortiumnews.com/archive/xfile.html

Impeached and imprisoned?
For lies that led to the death of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people?
Ha!
Our leaders get prizes for that.
Henry Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize and George W. Bush just got the Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center.

Yes, but he got that before he had done anything, so you can’t say he got it for killing people or even that he got it despite killing people.

The most you can say is probably that he got it in the hope that it would give him the moral authority to kill some people.

According to the first President of Iran after the Iranian Revolution of 1979 (Abolhassan Banisadr) — a revolution which ousted the shah and took US hostages– Reagan colluded with the Iranian government to agree to wait until after the election to release the hostages in order to beat Carter.
But of course, everyone (even Democrats) now believes Reagan was the greatest thing since B movies. Or at least the greatest thing IN B movies (with the exception of Bonzo the monkey, of course)

Does anyone have any concerns about the influence Israel has on our elections and national policies?

No doubt, a lot of anti-semites have.
Israel is an ally with a democratically elected government, not an adversarial power run by a dictator with fake elections, like the authoritarians Trump adores.
In today’s climate, I am thrilled that the US has remained an ally of Israel and that 26 US states have come out with anti-BDS policies. Anti-semitic incidents have been increasing and, with Neo-Nazi’s shouting “Jews will not replace us” and “blood and soil” at a protest of the removal of Confederate statues, as well as the recent murder of 11 innocent Jews in their synagogue, I would like Jews to have a place to go to if Trump’s white supremacist base gets their wishes for “blood and soil” here or if there is another Holocaust anywhere.
The only thing that Nixon did which I recall being really glad about was on Yom Kippur in 1973, when Israel was attacked on two fronts, by Egypt and Syria, and he sent planes to provide assistance and to evacuate Americans. I was living there then and it was a very scary time, so I liked having that choice –even though ultimately I decided to stay there.

The Truth is somewhere in between you and Dienne 77. Netanyahu is destroying whatever moral authority Isreal had. Suffice it to say when your friends are the Christian Right with a vision of end times. The Saudis and DJT you are on shaky moral grounds. Israel was never an ally. It was a client state in a proxy war with the Soviets. Israel acted in its own self-interest (all nations do )that war effectively ended in 76 when Egypt turned to the US. Certainly with the fall of the Soviet Union.
When your minister of defense and army chief of staff resign because of the treatment of civilians. it has to say something about your claims to be a liberal Democracy and not another thuggish authoritarian state.

Ask the Palestinians on the West Bank and in Gaza what kind of democracy Israel is.
Also interesting that, despite two years squandered while obsessing, yet still not proving anything, about collusion with Russia, so far the only states that have been documented colluding with Trump are Israel and Saudi Arabia, who just happen to have formed a sinister alliance in the region.

MIchael,
Every American intelligence agency agrees that Russian government agents interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump. I have not seen conclusive evidence that his campaign colluded with Putin, but given his obsequiousness towards Vlad, I would not be surprised to learn that he knew. Trump desperately wanted to win but had no interest in governing. He still doesn’t.

Trump thinks governing is sending out tweets full of lies and hate and holding rallies where he lies to his followers and leads them in “lock her up chants” while he is urging his followers to attack the media Trump doesn’t like.

Try imagining what it’s like to live in a region where your nation is surrounded by countries that have long said you have no right to exist. When your people have been vilified throughout history and six million were exterminated by genocide not that long ago, survival mechanisms kick in of necessity. We are not perfect, but no people are. It’s still very easy for others to blame Jews for virtually all ills, including in America, where in your lifetime, you’ve never had to comfort terrified children who must sleep in bunkers because the country is under attack. When I was a kid growing up in the US, I was often taunted for killing Christ and I got tired of being asked to show people my horns. Jews do NOT have horns! I had frequent nightmares of a Nazi invasion and WISHED my family had a bunker where I could hide and feel safe for the night. Anti-semitism needs to stop already!

Neo-Nazi groups, such as Atomwaffen, aim to ignite a race war in the US. Just last year, a former Atomwaffen member who was arrested told police, “They’re planning bombings and stuff like that on countless people, they’re planning to kill civilian life,” A detective asked if Atomwaffen had drawn up a list of specific targets. “Power lines, nuclear reactors, synagogues, things like that,” he replied. Police found they had an arsenal of weapons and supplies for making bombs, including radioactive materials.
Such groups organize “hate camps.” They provide trainings but they also recruit both veterans and active duty military personnel since they are already trained in warfare.
These groups pose very serious, genuine risks to citizens in our country, from people within our country, as white supremacist beliefs and activities have been encouraged in the current Zeitgeist under our so-called POTUS. Unfortunately, the threats are not being handled adequately by authorities:

Most Republicans if not all of them think it is okay to lie if that means they win and achieve their often draconian goals.
At the same time, when a Democrat lies, Republicans crucify them because they know this is the Achilles heal of the Democratic Party. And Republicans even manufacturer stories that Democrats lie (a lie about a fake lie) because registered Democratic voters tend to dislike liars.
Since those registered Democrats tend to not vote for GOP candidates, that means Republicans don’t lose many votes, if any, when they lie because their voters approve of liars.

That explains a lot about the long, dragged out arguments in 1968 over the shape of the table and seating arrangements at the Paris Peace Talk for negotiations between South and North Vietnam. While “South Vietnam played chicken with US Presidents” and “diplomats sketched out tables, 1598 soldiers and marines were lost to the Vietnam War” https://historicallyblogging.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/the-battle-of-the-tables-in-vietnam/
And Reagan’s involvement in 1980 comes as no surprise to many of us, because the Hollywood-B-movie-style release of the Iran hostages just moments after Reagan was sworn in as president looked so hinky that it led us to suspect that Reagan knowingly played a huge hand in digging Carter’s political grave over the hostage situation.
Denis Smith’s description of the Republican party’s unethical history, at least in my lifetime, is right on target, “treason –by a political party that believes in winning at all costs.”
