The libertarian American Enterprise Institute, funded in part by Betsy DeVos, will host an event on October 2, when Eva Moskowitz will reveal the secrets of success at her Success Academy charter chain in New York City.
Will she talk about how she screens out the kids with disabilities? how she screens out the kids who don’t speak English? how she pushes out the kids who are unwilling to conform or who are likely to get low test scores by suspending them day after day until their parents withdraw them? how she has the highest teacher attrition rate of all charters in New York City? will she boast about her plan to get rid of public schools or use them as dumping grounds for the kids she doesn’t want?
I won’t be there, unfortunately. I plan to #TakeAKnee for Eva.

Above all, PR loudly and carry a big bank-roll, because love of money covers over a multitude of sins.

Somebody please make this woman evil moskowitch go away. This woman is loved by the press who should really be painting this woman as an evil public school hating drone. Why oh why must we have to deal with this woman on a daily basis. Please go away and start a charter somewhere in the mid west or alike.

If one were to make a list of individuals who have most benefitted from Ed Reform, she’d be a top ten candidate. Other nominees:
1.) President George W. Bush
2.) Secretary of Education Arne Duncan
3.) Senator Michael Bennet
4.) Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos
5.) Common Core creator David Coleman
6.) Former DC Superintendent Michelle Rhee
7.) Plutocrat Bill Gates
I’m sure I’m missing some obvious ones.

Well, we know she loves echo chambers, so this comes as little surprise. Nonetheless, this news did cause me to throw up in my mouth a little bit….

Because there can never be enough charter school cheerleading.
I assume public schools will be excluded from this event, as is the standard practice in ed reform?
I hope they warm up with the well-rehearsed “public schools suck!’ chorus we’re all so familiar with- let’s run down the list of the derogatory terms they use to describe the schools 90% of kids attend- “government schools”, “19th century factories” and “crumbling prisons”
Here’s how the public employees at the US Department of Education describe public schools:
“Most students are starting a new school year that is all too familiar. Desks lined up in rows. Their teacher standing in front of the room, framed by a blackboard. They dive into a curriculum written for the “average” student. They follow the same schedule, the same routine—just waiting to be saved by the bell.
It’s a mundane malaise that dampens dreams, dims horizons, and denies futures.”
Gosh, those sound like terrible places! Any GOOD parent would immediately transfer to a charter or private school!
Which is of course the point of this propaganda.

Are there any education conferences where public school representatives are permitted to speak, or is that now forbidden?
I’m not sure these think tankers can really get an accurate read of “US education” without occasionally running into someone who has some connection to a public school, much as they may dislike that.

Chiara,
You are unlikely to find any supporters of public schools at AEI, Thomas B. Fordham, CATO, Heritage, or any number of other think tanks.
They know who butters their bread. One of them is now Secretary of Education.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I will be driving in the opposite direction of WashDC. Gotta get out to the West Coast for a more important conference, the NPE one in Oakland.
I’ve heard her speak at a similar lovefest in St. Louis about a year ago. Was not impressed at all with what I heard. And it included one of those take questions from the audience on 3×5 cards and throw out anything but softball type questions for her to answer. My question was going to be “How the hell do you stand in those 3-4″ pumps all day?” At least it might have made it through the initial screening because any of my hundred or so other questions wouldn’t have made it.

The so-called “journalists” who have written about Eva Moskowitz’ book have been simply terrible – they give journalists a bad name.
A special call out for some recent truly awful reporting goes to The Atlantic Monthly and their writer Alia Wong. I believe that fawning writers who are too lazy to any homework before interviewing someone for a major magazine deserve to be called out on their embarrassing pieces of writing.
After being played for fools for over a year by Donald Trump, you’d think reporters would learn that asking a question and then letting your subject spew out talking points that may or may not be true and then going on to the next question doesn’t enlighten. It simply provides a PR opportunity for con men to make their pitches.
That kind of truly lazy reporting doesn’t work with people who have no compunction about saying whatever they need to say to make themselves look good. Whether or not it is true does not matter.
Thus you keep hearing Eva Moskowitz claiming she gets inordinately high numbers of violent 5 year olds in her schools serving almost no white children. Although somehow in her charters that have very few poor kids and disproportionately high numbers of white students there just aren’t all those violent kids. No reporter ever challenges her on the incredibly nasty innuendos she makes about African-American kindergarten and first grade students and their natural violent tendencies to act out so dangerously that Moskowitz has no choice but to suspend them.
Moskowitz’ defenders always agree that the non-white children she marks as violent came into the school as violent 5 year olds and it has nothing to do with her incredibly inexperienced kindergarten teachers. It’s just the violent nature of the children who win the lotteries for spots in her schools that have almost no white students, according to her racist supporters who insist Eva Moskowitz should always be believed. After all, Eva did tell us all how wonderful Betsy DeVos is and how much she cares about poor kids just like Moskowitz!
No doubt the racists folks at AEI will accept Moskowitz claims that lots of violent non-white 5 year olds enroll in her schools just like they will believe that Moskowitz was telling the truth when she demanded that the Senate approve Betsy DeVos because Eva claimed she was a terrific and wonderful choice.
The woman who never lies. When Eva Moskowitz gives the public her solemn word that she absolutely knows that Betsy DeVos cares about poor students just as much as Moskowitz herself does, we should all believe her.

I’m reminded of the time when Newark Students Union teens registered to attend Cami Anderson’s AEI speech. Maybe NAACP members will register for this one. They’ve sought a freeze on charters if I’m correct.
