WHY: Over the last 17 years of the takeover of the Detroit Public

Schools, we have known about the involvement of Betsy

DeVos and her husband, Dick DeVos, in the destruction of the

Detroit Public Schools. The DeVos Foundation and The Great

Lakes Education Project, controlled by the DeVos family, has

been instrumental in promoting the destruction of DPS, a

predominantly Black and Brown school system by pushing for

more charter schools resulting in Detroit having more charters

that any other district in Michigan. Where is the accountability

to the Public from Mrs. DeVos’ policies that have resulted in

Michigan having some of the worse charters in the Nation?

Besty DeVos supports vouchers and if she is approved to head

the USDOE, she will continue to push again this already failed

campaign, which was previously voted down by the citizens.

We are announcing our “Journey For Justice” to

Washington DC on January 10, 2017 to meet with the

Senate Help Committee and the members of the Congressional

Black Caucus.

This list has just sunk to a new low. It’s not real humor except to true Commucrats. Sheeesh. There’s no hope for you. Uneducable “educators.” What an irony. It is attitudes like these in public school supporters and teachers that leads Trump to nominate a DeVos. From a conservative or even moderate centrist political point of view, the public schools must be disassembled to deprive leftists of a power base there. If she is confirmed, you’ve brought it on yourselves by loyalty to a European philosophy of government rather than an American one. So many, many otherwise good people corrupted by ignorance of the genius of Federalism vs. centralism. Maybe Betsy will dissolve the “Ministry” of Education which she has been nominated to head. What was once a true public good for the nation becomes the embodiment of collectivist thought in the country, it is time to dismantle it. Nice going, folks.

    You seem to be mistaking professional concerns with “hate”.
    And try to understand if we seem a bit edgy; we teachers have spent the last 15 years being unfairly scrutinized under a broken microscope. The attacks on our efforts have been relentless, and they have been spewed by no-nothing pundits, politicians, and reformers – none of whom would last two minutes in front of a classroom full of 7th graders. Very easy being an armchair critic.

Is it represented by German Social Democrats or Christian Democrats or Free Democrats? Is it led by Marie LePen, Francois Hollande, Giscard D’estaing, or Charles DeGaulle? Is it represented by King Gustav, Silvio Berlusconi, or Mariano Rajoy. What kind of policies it pursue and what kind of freedoms does it restrict? Freedoms like less gun deaths on the continent than in a large American city? Like quality education and health care which are rights, not privileges? And just what is “an American one”? What is the “American” philosophy? Your observation has to be one of the most ignorant things I’ve read since Trump’s last tweet. If you are an “educator”, then put away the John Birch manual and learn a little about the real world.

The vile GOP totally blocked even having a hearing for Obama’s pick for the SCOTUS. That is unprecedented to my knowledge. So instead of a moderate on the SCOTUS we will get a Trumpian fascist. And he/she will be on the court for a very long time.

    An appointment to the Supreme Court, requires only a simple majority of the senators present and voting. BUT- It takes 3/5 of the senators present and voting to end the debate (cloture).
    
    The Senate, has the power to “filibuster” a nomination.

Senator Schumer needs to read the US Constitution. Article II Section 2:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The rules of the Senate permit unlimited debate (called a “filibuster”). It takes 3/5 of the senators present and voting to end the debate (Called “cloture”).

Once debate has ended, it takes a simple majority of the senators present, to confirm a Supreme Court nomination.

In 2013, Harry Reid pushed through a change, that will make it easier for a president to get nominations confirmed. Senator Mitch McConnell(R-KY) opposed this change.
