The National Council on Teacher Quality holds an important position in the public arena, passing judgment on the quality of teacher education programs across the nation.
Mercedes Schneider, who holds a Ph.D. In statistics and research methods, is reviewing the board of NCTQ to determine its qualification to do its job. Among its members are Michelle Rhee, Wendy Kopp, Joel Klein, and quite a few more. How many have classroom experience? How many understand how teachers are or should be prepared?

It is vile indeed if the vast majority of people in this organization are not teachers, Nationally Board Ceritifed Teachers, parents, and college professors who have had a minimum of 10 years teaching pre-k through 12th grade in public schools. If this is not the case, then the organization is little more than a theatrical show to dramatize and highlight the idea of reviewing teacher quality without having any real substance to back it up.
Personally, I think Michelle Rhee and Joel Klein would be so much more productive and perhaps more content as board members of WalMart.

In Illinois, there is now a license to teach. It is done all online for less than $3,000 a semester. It takes 2-2 1/2 years to complete the program. All I know is what I read online. Interesting how they teach interacting with students in a non-people environment. Student teaching is $1,000. No word on who will accept these credentials, but 201 in Cicero IL with 8,000 students is accepting a license to at least some degree. OK, my information is sketchy. Most teachers in the district are really afraid to talk or email. Cheaper online degrees will mean lower salaries and a teacher glut for years to come. This is a far cry from just a few years ago where advanced teacher degrees and years of experience were honored. How things change.

Is that why the state is switching to a license from certificates? As a substitute, I don’t get feedback from a district as to why the state board is changing procedures. No reasons were given on the state board site that I could see. Probably a way to charge us more money.
