Members of the Philadelphia Student Union performed a Zombie flash dance in front of school district headquarters to protest school closings. The district leadership insists it needs to save money by closing schools. The students don’t believe it.
The students are right.
The district will open privately managed charters to replace the closed public schools.

Students, we don’t need no stinkin students to tell us what is going on!!

Poor Philly students. To be saddled with Dr. William Hite, Jr. who told parents in Prince George’s County that he was too busy to visit schools and that he wanted to grow gray in PGCPS.

Students definatly need to become more involved in the real time decisions concerning their education in high school. After all, it is their lives on the line and one thing I have learned from them is that they are smart and know immediately when they are disrespected and getting ripped off. This concept came from some students we met in California. Another high school student we met came up with the concept for text messaging the parent or guardian in real time if their student was not in school. This is now in place in several states and school districts. It is called Truant Today. We back students being involved and having input into the decision making process and doing investigation as a part of their educational process. The long term results of backing this will be dramatic over time and education will then be easier to keep up with the real time demands as the environment changes constantly.
