The high point for 2013 in Dallas was the Class of 2013 being largest graduation class in 31 years following 7 years of constant progress. The lowpoint of 2013 was watching the Class of 2014 shrink until it had suffered the greatest year to year loss of any Dallas ISD senior class in 29 years! This is all related to the strategy it appears Mike Miles used in Colorado as the 12th grade enrollment shrunk in the school district he was managing the last four years before he came to Dallas ISD, shrinking a total of 32%! Arne Duncan and Bill Gates are the Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfewitz of education. Just as the latter thought they all of the answers for our struggles in Iraq and Afghanistan with their high-tech “shock and awe” approach to warfare, so too do Duncan and Gates think they both have the answers to education. Interestingly, all four frequently used the term “transformation.” We see what a mess the latter left in the middle east. Is there any doubt that the former will leave the same mess in education? I think not. And, in the end, who will be left to clean up the mess? The American taxpayer.
