Many teachers in Ohio figured that out, and they are running for legislative seats.
Some are taking on impossible tasks, but, hey, you never know.
When the legislators refuse to listen, then run against them.
Organize parents and others who care about public education.
Run for office.
On the list linked here, there is one person I have met personally, and that is Maureen Reedy.

Once upon a time, we elected officeholders based on their ability to fulfill their oaths of office. That was the theory, anyway. High school social studies teachers were supposed to cover duties and responsibilities of officeholders.
With the recent failure of post-partisanship and the rise of hyperpartisanship, perhaps we can just skip high school civics and practice guilt by association. That will certainly make the job of candidate screening committees simpler.
We might anticipate the spectacle of teachers boycotting high school civics to erode support for public education, however.
