Diane, I have been remiss in waiting so long to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your memoir. What a remarkable life – I am so grateful you shared it with us. As a longtime admirer, I knew some of the broad facts, but it was fascinating to read so many unexpected details – I had no idea your grandfather was a Confederate army soldier! I could imagine you driving a car at age 14! I loved your high school English teacher’s graduation gift of the poetry quote that seems to define your life. I’m sorry for the traumas you had to deal with, both as a young girl and later in life. I’m in awe of the remarkable fortitude you demonstrated over and over again, not just going on, but going on to thrive as you did as a Wellesley student and a scholar. I related to your description of your experience at The New Leader, both as a kind of graduate degree education, and especially about how those years influenced your political and intellectual development. Spurning zealotry and ideologues in favor of evidence and looking at all sides of an issue before coming down on a side, being willing to admit you were wrong, a healthy skepticism toward panaceas.
I will be listening to Nick Covington’s interview. It was lovely to get to briefly meet you in person! Thank you for continuing to fight and speak out for truth, honesty, and democratic values. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us.

NYCPSP,
Glad to have you back.
I was missing you!
It was surprising to meet you at the event at the Brooklyn Oublic Livrary.
I did not expect you to look as you did.
Don’t ask what I did expect!
Thank you for your comments about my book!
Diane
