This is an extraordinary video, showing ICE-DHS employees turning away a Catholic priest who wanted to hold communion for ICE detainees. These are people suffering a cruel fate. Why not allow them the comfort of their religion?

Consider that the Supreme Court has been using the freedom of religion guarantee of the First Amendment to tear down the “wall of separation” between church and state and to legalize discrimination against gays.
Why then is is legal or acceptable for ICE to refuse to allow religious freedom to detainees?

NumNum Noem is evil.

I think Trump’s fascist Nazi Klepto-kakistoracy regime doesn’t want any witnesses to how those detainees are being treated.
Trump wants people he is targeting to suffer. So does the leadership of the twice impeached, convicted rapist fraud felon and mastermind, instigator of the January 6, 2021, failed violent failed coup attempt to overthrow the democratically elected government of the United States.
To many of Trump’s supporters, the Toxic T is a religious figure, which is why the sadistic malignant narcissistic sociopath’s worshipers think he’s doing what their god wants Trump to do.
Religious comparisons to Donald Trump, including the term “messiah,” have been made by some of his supporters using passages from the Old Testament about biblical kings and leaders. These are not official declarations by religious bodies but interpretations by certain individuals like Jerry Falwell Jr. and some but not all evangelical fundamentalist groups.
The most frequently cited figures are the Persian King Cyrus, Israelite King Jehu, and Israel’s King David.
King Cyrus is one of the most common biblical comparisons made by Trump supporters.
In the Book of Isaiah, the pagan king Cyrus the Great is called God’s “anointed” (Messiah in Hebrew) and “shepherd”. God uses Cyrus to conquer nations and then ordains him to allow the exiled Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple.
Like King David, who has personal flaws, but was still chosen by God, Trump is presented as an imperfect but divinely appointed leader.
Messianic Jewish leader Jonathan Cahn has compared Trump to King Jehu, an Israelite King known for ruthlessly eliminating the worship of Baal in Israel. Cahn framed Trump’s promise to “drain the swamp” as being in the same sprit as Jehu’s actions to restore the nation.
So, what’s happening in those camps is ordained by the messiah their god sent them, who has to be ruthless to live up to their expectations. Trump has to slaughter people. Trump has to treat people as ruthlessly as possible for his followers to stick with him.

Excellent points as usual Lloyd. It is stupefying for secularists to imagine anyone believing this aberrant treasonous grifter is divinely accorded but then again the many organized groups worshipping a conveniently humanoid god who rules an expansive universe is a pretty big con to begin with.

Religious freedom, free speech, state’s rights, blah blah blah. All bs. Just repression to maintain and expand power.

Arthur,
One thing you can say for certain is that the Trump administration does not have any interest in states’ rights. They believe in federal control because they are in charge of the federal government.

All their cross wearing and flag waving are political props. Actions speak louder than words.

Why? Because it is the innately primitive nature of Kristi Noem and such others to perceive persons and things not of their tribe as natural existential threats that must be attacked, defeated, and controlled at all costs, lest they become the ones attacked, defeated, and controlled. Neither moral consistency nor logical consistence matters to them. They willfully embrace whatever wickedness that advantages them in the moment.

I think it’s because they don’t even cast a wide net when it comes to Christianity. They give preferential treatment to Protestants, but most Hispanic immigrants, who they generally see as people of color, moochers and hate, are Catholic.
It’s similar to their preference for Orthodox Jews in America, though that’s more about Ivanka and politics. This is because most Orthodox are conservative Republicans who support the malignant narcissist, while most US Jews are Reform who are primarily progressive Democrats (and a much larger chunk of voters here).

I hope that the day will come when all these evil, sick people will be brought up on charges, tried, convicted, and sent to prison for their heinous deeds.
