Ukraine has been bravely resisting the Russian invaders for more than three years. Its cities and towns have been devastated by Russian bombardment. Ukraine wants to align with the West. Putin is determined to bring Ukraine back into the Soviet orbit, even if it requires murdering its people, destroying its historic monuments, obliterating its cultural centers, wiping out hospitals, schools, and homes.
Trump held a meeting with Putin, the aggressor, to discuss next steps. Trump pointedly excluded Zelensky and representatives of the European Union.
When Zelensky visited the White House, Trump and Vance humiliated him for his “lack of gratitude” to Trump. But when Putin–the international pariah– met Putin in Alaska, he rolled out a red carpet. He admires this thug, this mass murderer, this ruthless dictator.
Trump gave Putin all he wanted: no ceasefire, bombs away! “Peace” talks on Putin’s terms. Keep on killing innocent civilians. Keep raining drones on hospitals, shopping malls, apartment buildings, power grids, and schools.
We had no reason to expect a different outcome. Putin is a highly experienced KGB agent who has controlled Russia for many years, and Trump is a television personality. Trump has a schoolboy crush on Putin. When he sees Putin, he is starstruck. I suppose we should be glad that Trump didn’t offer to give Alaska back to Russia as a munificent gift.
Trump stabbed the people of Ukraine in the back. Also in the front. He betrayed our European allies.
What a disgrace is this miserable man. What an embarrassment to our nation.

Ladyfair, I do not know the feeling of being worried about my relatives. As far as I am aware, I do not have any relatives “who did not make it to America.” My daughter and her husband are seriously contemplating moving permanently to Italy.
I am not “embarrassed” for this nation into which I was born. I am grieving for a nation that is no longer.

I had many relatives who did not make it to America. They were all murdered between 1933 and 1945.
But I certainly agree with your worrying for your relatives who are still over there, esp if they are in Ukraine or Poland.

But the real sin as Trump pointed out was the neutered and careless men if Europe who allowed if not also enabled this invasion.
Anytime, anyplace and anywhere Diane wants to prove she is a real American being the equal of American men who have zero benefits or special programs like her peers, bring it on and I’ll let you earn what you have taken so lightly.
War is not some thing one can do piecemeal and let the very citizens who aided it or their leaders go unpunished.

Ukrainians have been fighting against Russia since the 1200’s … to stop Russia as we did at the Cold War means firing every Democrat in government, rebuilding our military, and like Regan and now trump, confronting Russia with ultimate power and daring them to make another world war. In that part of the world that is not western civilization, the strong man image remains, as in the remainder of this world, only an American thinks the world is Americans dying to crawl out from inside of – a fallacy to judge values based on our unique lifestyle and humanity even in Europe remains us as the freaks of the world.
Wed would have fought and died under Mr Reagan as now under Trump; but for Obama and Biden, my real disgust is for those safe back home who voted for these two conspirators and a party now turned sedtioinsts that needs to be crushed before we lose what they take for granted and never earned – personal freedom. Censorship and weaponization of government under Obama and Biden coupled with the most hated woman since Jane Fonda, Hillary Clinton says it all about a political movement our Founding Fathers termed, Domestic enemies. And like Rome, they need to be dealt with or we lose our form of Republican government as in France and Italy, but at least we elect all of our leaders.
The Ukraine – what is needed is not more weapons, but less globalization and socialism worldwide for those of use who have seen its results in Asia, Africa and south of our borders, and in some latent ways, the UK and EU.
But is Diane wants to join the fight overseas, let’s go but let’s bring the charlatan behind it all – Obama with me to pay for the millions who died thanks to his world-wide policies. Truly sick and tired of all wars save 2 Democrats have caused or enabled.

Gosh, Boris, I’m so sorry that I didn’t join the military like you. When I was of the right age, women were not welcome to join the military except as nurses or clerks. I wish I could have trained to be a pilot. Now, I’m 87. Which unit of the military should I join?
As for Trump standing up to Putin, when did that happen? I missed it.

The question is what would America troops do ? Would they fire on the people? Unlike the Soviet troops in Moscow. The first Chinese troops sent into Tienanmen Square did not fire. Their replacements were told that the first troops were attacked by the people.At this point I do not think they would rebel . But eventually they usually do.

Putin accused Biden of starting the war in Ukraine. [That would be laughable if it wasn’t so sick.] Putin even parroted the U.S president’s oft-repeated lie that the war with Ukraine would have never happened had Trump been in office at the time of the Russian invasion. Putin knows how to flatter puppet Trump.
The White House should have at least required Putin to take questions in exchange for his tour of a U.S. military base. Reporters were shouting out questions but none were answered. The summit was too quickly arranged and had zero results.
Putin has an International Criminal Court arrest warrant out for him for war crimes in Ukraine. Putin had no business being invited to speak on U.S. soil nor being allowed to ride in the presidential limo. Having a red carpet put up for him shows Trump’s ineptitude.
Trump is Putin’s Puppet and is a disgrace to the United States and the whole world. His degenerating lack of mental ability is showing. Trump belongs either in prison or in a mental institution where he can get the help he needs.

He’s going to try to convince Ukraine to give in. In an interview with Fox News following Friday’s summit, President Trump was asked for his advice to President Zelensky, to which he responded, “Make a deal”: “Russia’s a very big power and they’re not,” he noted. Once a bully, always a bully. And now he’s our representative to the world. This gets worse every single day. Every word from him. Every executive order. Goodness is abandoned.

Papers that Trump’s crack security team left in the hotel photocopy machine (yep, they did) in Alaska show that Trump was going to award his buddy Putin an expensive statue of an American Bald Eagle as a symbol of his admiration for Putin. BUT, because Putin took over the press conference and sidelined Trump, Trump got miffed and didn’t give pal Putin the statue.
Instead of ordering Putin to end the war or face crippling sanctions that will tank the Russian economy, Trump is still thinking about allowing Putin to keep all the Ukrainian territory he stole in order to “pretty please” Putin into ending his invasion of Ukraine.
Real Republican President Ronald Reagan must be rolling over in his grave.

Trump will never follow through with his threats of bigger sanctions on Russia without a cease-fire just like Putin can never be trusted to keep any “promise” he makes. As a war criminal he should have been arrested instead of having a Red carpet welcome. And how do you meet to decide the fate of a nation that never asked to be invaded without the president of that nation present? Insulting!

If he has to flee, I think he’ll head to one of the Middle Eastern countries with whom he made a deal to build a hotel. Even he is smart enough to know that Russia is dangerous, and it has a short golf season.
