Trump appointed Andrea Lucas, an outspoken critic of policies that acknowledge race or gender, to be chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC traditionally advocates for race-based and gender-based policies to monitor whether employers are trying to give all groups an equal chance. Lucas opposes the EEOC’s actions.
If the EEOC receives a complaint about racism in a workplace, it would collect data about the workforce. Its recommendations would be based on that data.
Lucas believes that hiring decisions must “colorblind,” so if the workforce is 100% white, there’s no problem.
Lucas opposes any enforcement that takes race or gender into account. She is also strenuously opposed to acknowledging that transgender people exist. She may think the same of gay people.
Lucas spoke at a Federalist Society meeting, where she made her views on gender clear:
“It’s important to say that biological sex is real and it matters, and it’s immutable and it’s binary. And from that premise we have, that’s the foundation on which we then proceed to have the various civil rights laws that have been enacted for the last 60 years.”
In short, don’t expect her to have any sympathy for discrimination against LGBT people.
There are five members on the EEOC, and she is the only Republican. Trump appointed her in 2020. There is a vacancy. Even with a 3-2 majority of Democrats, don’t expect much civil rights enforcement for the next four years.

I saw a funny meme on social media. DEI=Don, Jr., Eric and Ivanka. These three have the ultimate luxury of opportunity. They get to ride on daddy’s coattails just like big daddy got to ride on his daddy’s coattails before him. It is called inter-generational wealth. Most of the rest of us have to climb the ladder of opportunity based on our own merits, which is becoming harder for young people, because so many wealthy boomers and others seem to be intent on pulling the ladder of opportunity behind them.
For diverse people climbing this ladder is even more difficult due to low family wealth and discrimination, which the anti-DEI people refuse to acknowledge. They claim DEI policies are opposed to merit. This claim is another right wing lie. DEI policies simply want employers to caste a wider net and broaden their criteria when selecting employees. Any newly hired person still has to prove their value regardless of color, gender or sexual orientation. DEI aspires to support a more inclusive society for under served groups of people. I cannot understand why the right wing extremists find DEI so threatening. Anti-DEI is a smokescreen designed to legitimize prejudice. I think these extremists really want to make pre-civil rights era discrimination and segregation the law of the land again and why they vilify public education. They want to erase decades of social progress.

Andrea Lucas is yet another female critic of anti-discrimination practices, like current WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who fail to recognize and appreciate that it’s precisely those kinds of “wokeness” policies that enable them to be employed in the jobs they currently have. How can they not know that women were not invited to the table before and that previously only (mostly white) men were in charge and allowed in such positions?

Women like Leavitt and Lucas believe that they are special. The white male supremacists always ensure that they select some sellouts to give them a veneer of respectability.

American Airlines had a recent article about ending DEI. I fly on American Airlines. I want the best pilots to fly the plane- (not the lowest person to fill a quota). It doesn’t matter if they are white, black, male or female. I just want the best pilot to entrust my life to and fly the plane.

Frances,
I agree. Only the most qualified person should fly the plane, only the most qualified should do surgery. Etc for every profession.
