Trump has suggested that Canada, a huge and sovereign nation, should become the 51st state of the U.S.
Elizabeth Evans May, a member of the Green Party in the Canadian Parliament, suggested instead that California, Oregon, and Washington State should become provinces of Canada.
Ben Meiselas of the Meidas Touch blog posted this video.
Because Trump suggested that Wayne Gretzky should be elected Prime minister of Canada, She felt compelled to explain to Trump how the Canadian system differs from the American system. The people don’t elect the prime minister. The members of parliament do.
Explaining the basic facts of history and government to the undereducated Trump is a never ending task. He clearly learned nothing about such subjects in high school or college.

Take Michigan, Please !!!

While we are at it, give Florida, including Mar-a-Lago, back to Spain. Maybe they would like to have Trump in the bargain.

I think the people of Michigan and maybe Minnesota might want to be one of Canada’s 5 new Provinces!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the only reason T wants Canada is because if they were a state, then the US would be “biggest.”

You know, we in Washington state have a lot more in common with Canada than we do with MAGA, so I would be all in for becoming a new province! We already love British Columbia!

The Canadians should call Mr Trump’s bluff, offering to join us as not one but 11 states ( 10 provinces, plus a first nations state). These would be apportioned 53 representatives and 22 senators. Given the make up of Canada’s electorate there would be 30 very liberal democrats, 5 real socialists, 10 moderate democrats, and 8 that would be liberal Republicans. The senators would split 18 to 4 not Republicans. We would not see republican congressional majorities for a long time.

Yes, he’s truly “a never ending task,” especially since the ignorant dolt has no interest in learning, unless the topic concerns making money –and even then ya gotta wonder how much someone who has had SIX business bankruptcies has learned about that.
Given that our strongest allies for a very long time have been the UK, including England and Canada, and many interactions with foreign leaders are a critical component of being president, I’d have thought that he would have bothered to learn how the parliamentary system works during his first term in office! What an embarrassment he and the equally low-information crazy Americans who voted for him are.
I’ll gladly offer up my blue state for joining Canada as well!

If FELON47 becomes the dictator Project 2025 was written to put in power, I’d have no problem if California, Oregon and Washington states left the United States and joined Canada, which would still be a democracy.
That way, we’d get better health care and stay in NATO so we’d have allies to fight by our side if FELON47’s had his MAGA army attack Canada’s democratic west coast provinces.
Once those three states joined Canada, that larger country would also become a nuclear power. A lot of nuclear weapons in the US are stored in those three states.
Canada would also have a larger navy, a larger land army and a larger Airforce. The U.S. Pacific fleet is the largest in the world and that fleet is headquartered in those states and Hawaii.
Maybe Hawaii would want to join Canada too.
The next piece makes for an interesting read.
I didn’t think of this:
“Trump, blathering, wants Canada to become the 51st state. As many point out, this makes no sense constitutionally for his party, as the State of Canada would have some 50 U.S. Representatives and 60 electoral college votes. The House and presidency would turn a maple shade of Blue for a generation. If Canada entered the U.S. as several states—reasonable given that it has 10 provinces—the Senate would turn likewise.”
What if California, Oregon and Washington joined Canada instead?

Good points, Lloyd! He probably never considered how Canadians tend to vote, such as their liberal majority in Parliament today hence their liberal PM (nor their free health care & cheap medications). No doubt, he’d try to figure out ways to prevent them from voting here, and if he wants to prove to his cult of crazies that he represents the radical-right, accomplishing that would be high on his agenda.
IMHO, he’s way too determined to get his image added to Mt. Rushmore –& probably to our currency as well.

He might have been in HS and college in body, but never in mind (it had already rotted away by then)
