Congressman Adam Schiff replied in the House chamber to the vote to censure him for his role in investigating Trump, including his leadership of the first Trump impeachment trial. The House voted 213-209 to censure him. Watch his five-minute speech. He was censured for doing his job as a member of a Congress.
As Jay Kuo explains in this post, censure is rare, administered for financial or ethical improprieties. A censure vote against Schiff was taken twice. The first time it failed, because 20 Republicans opposed it (some may have thought it was a dumb idea, but most were bothered because it would have fined Schiff $16 million for daring to lead the charge against Trump). The second vote passed for two reasons: 1) the $16 million fine was dropped, and 2) Trump threatened to primary any Republican who opposed it. Trump still terrifies House Republicans.
Schiff is running for the Senate in California. After watching his speech, I went to his website and contributed to his campaign.

Trump’s power comes from the primaries, not the general election. The traitor’s base of fascist loving MAGA RINO zombies will turn out in mass and vote for whoever Trump recommends. During the general election most if not all of them will lose.
Republicans that despise Trump, but fear to speak out like Liz Cheney did, have a choice, the frying pan or the fire heating it. As long as Traitor Trump is alive and he keeps his dangerously dumber-than-dumb MAGA base of about 30 million (less than 10% of the population), he will never stop lying and threatening — unless he is in prison held in solitary confinement, cut off from the world. It doesn’t matter what a judge or jury rules to censure him (he ignores judges and juries), the only way to silence this traitor is to isolate him with no contact with anyone, anyway, anywhere, anyhow.
In prison, he shouldn’t be allowed to have visitors either and his diet should be bread and water.

Both of them, Raskin, McGovern, Jamie Crockett, Summer Lee, Josh Moskowitz, and some others I’m forgetting have been so impressive in articulating both truth and the hypocrisy of House republicans. Let’s hope the DNC pays attention to their tactics. They’re not wishy-washy centrists. You know where they stand and why.

It’s a wonderful speech that shows the hypocrisy of the GOP that is held hostage by the MAGA extremists. It also highlights a big problem with our fragile democracy when a vindictive billionaire has the ability to control the direction of The House, and there is no justification for the censure other than revenge. It’s a sad day for democracy.

Another sad fact is that the Democrats would likely have two or three extra seats in the House, if we had functioning democracy. The surprisingly honest decision from The Supreme Court reveals the left would control The House, if not for partisan gerrymandering.

Republicans who do not see how far the party has moved under Trump are myopic beyond comprehension. Those who are old enough to recall Eisenhower, Howard Baker, and Gerald Ford must be wondering where their party went. Ironically, it went to the Democrats, whose moderate policies sound very much like these older Republicans. It has been a long time since anyone suggested nationalizing an industry. Modern “radicals” are called “left wing” if they suggest anything but hero worship for business.

When Katie Porter announced, I sent her a contribution. But when Schiff entered the race, I wrote a note to her (which she probably never saw) urging her to step out of the race and stay in Congress.
