I want to wish you the merriest of Christmases, the happiest of Chanukahs, and the blessings of Kwanzaa.
Relax. Enjoy friends and family. Don’t get stressed out. Peace.
If only there were peace in the world. And joy.
Let’s drink to that!
Diane
PS: I won’t post anything else today. But I have great stuff in store for you tomorrow and in the days ahead.

My cousin, Lawrence, used to call on Christmas morning and say “Christmas Gift!” It’s a country thing around here.
So to all here: Holiday Gift! Hope for a quick recovery for you, Diane!

Just read that the disgusting governor of Texas sent two busloads of migrants to VP Harris’s house yesterday and had them dumped on the street in the freezing temperatures. Cruelty is now inextricably woven into every fiber of the Republican political agenda. Higher even, I would say, than low taxes and magical prosperity.
It’s hard for me to get excited about the purported messages of the holidays any more. Knowing that that tens of millions of my so-called fellow citizens cheer actions like this on as they preach the virtues of their faiths and gods sums up the season and year for me.

Greg, I read that last night in a tweet by a CNN correspondent, who said that bus loads of men, women, and children were unloaded into 14 degree weather in DC, in front of VP Harris’ home. DC aid groups rescued them.
I tweeted that it was disgusting to see human beings used as political pawns. Greg Abbot and RonnDeSantis are sadists. They should run together in 2024 as the Sadists.

Finished reading a bio of Reinhard Heydrich and his wife last week. He was organizer of the SS and Wannsee Conference, arguably the more dispassionate and efficient killer of people in history. The only difference between the policies and actions for which he was responsible and those of today’s right-wing elected terrorists is of style, degree, and their ability to get all their followers to unconditionally stick to the same script, regardless of evidence, experience, or use of any of the five senses to try to interpret the world around them.
Two-to-three weeks from now, we will see actions in the House–new rules of procedure–that no one even dare imagine today. Again, hope I’m really wrong, but I think norms that we thought were untouchable today will become the sources of reactionary political cudgels the right will embrace.

I think the best thing about the holidays from Thanksgiving day to New Year’s day is the time off many working Americans are allowed, so they can join with family and friends they don’t have a lot of time to see for the rest of the year.
