When I got home this weekend someone asked how things are going in Nashville, I’m not sure they were ready for my answer, but it went kind of like this…
We have a “Don’t Say Gay” bill worse than Florida’s and about 4 more bills to go along with it-all equally filled with hate. GOP and B list celebrities are accusing librarians and teachers of “grooming” kids.
We have a vigilante abortion bill worse than Texas’. A bill that makes your friends and family $10k if they rat you out. Heck, if you decide to abort your rapists baby, his family and friends can sue you for $10k.
Did you ever imagine TN would give more rights to a violent rapist than a victim of a violent rapist. He can choose the mother of his child, but she can’t choose not to have her rapist’s baby. That is pure evil folks. That is today’s GOP, they don’t believe women are equal.
We have a school funding formula that’s not ready for prime time. It takes away local control, doesn’t have details and is more than 50% rule making we won’t see until AFTER the vote. And counties will love the property tax it will inevitably bring in 3-4 years😬. #whenleeisgone

These red states are putting their bias and hate on full display. These ignorant laws are against the common good, the LBGT community and women.
And yet there are people who will say that there is no difference between the parties. Really, no difference? Which Democratic governors are passing anti-gay, anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion laws? Would a GOP gargoyle president have appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the SCOTUS? These red states have banned abortions, in effect, and hope that their vile laws will be challenged and go to the SCOTUS which will probably uphold them and kill off Roe. These GOP anti-abortion laws will cause massive suffering for countless numbers of women who cannot go to more enlightened states for a safe abortion.

There are a few anti-abortion Democrats but most Democrats are for abortion rights. The GOP is almost 100% vehemently anti-abortion.

Republicans say that Judge Jackson was an “affirmative action” appointment, but she appears to have far better qualifications than some other justices, such as Clarence Thomas and Amy Coney Barrett. Judge Jackson got a higher rating from the ABA than Justice Barrett.
Judge Jackson is great and will be like a breath of fresh air on the SCOTUS. Biden did good.
Judge Jackson is breathtaking. Sooooooo intelligent, learned, careful, reasoned. She’s the sort of person that makes one proud of being a member of this species. I was blown away by her. Wow.
A majority of Tennesseans would tell you that the laws passed protect them from the awful liberals, who want to indoctrinate their children with Queers and Communism. This majority, however, would never allow the minority (those who vote consistently against them) to have a voice. This is called the erosion of democratic principles.
There are undoubtedly some gays in Tennessee, but I can’t imagine there are many Communists, other than the Putin-fans who watch Tucker Carlson. There must be a lot of them.
The break from reality that constitutes the base of the TN GOP is mind-boggling. They really believe that God chose the republicans to run the govt. Hence, the TN GOP rule with impunity. Persecuting “liiiiiibruuuls” and Democrats is a virtue, not a vice.

While we watch the passage of piecemeal legislation attacking rights (the product of conservative protestant and Catholic activists), in Texas, there is a greater threat to all of us.

Should we be surprised that Tennessee passed hateful legislation like this? The Trumpism MAGA controlled GOP is all about hate, lies, hate, misinformation, hate, and fraud. And that hate is supported by the majority of voters in Tennessee, apparently a hate controlled state.
This sort of insanity is not an outlier in TN. If the GOP can pass HB233, children will soon be able to marry in TN As usual, Rep. Gloria Johnson is on point: “Just did the @MSignorile show talking about HB233 and our backward GOP, in their anti-marriage equality zeal, they passed a bill in subcommittee for kiddie marriage. #whosgroomingwho,” Johnson wrote.

It seems that ALEC is behind these hate laws against gays.

For me the term woke is new.
As best I can tell, “woke” means that you support civil rights and civil liberties of blacks, Hispanics, gays, every other minority. People who are not “woke” want to restore the good old days when father knew best, and he was white and straight and made the rules.
I do think Gloria Johnson, besides being a retired public school teacher with and ed degree from UT Knoxville, is a badass. She is working as a politician in an area of TN which is heavily right wing and she doesn’t allow people to mess with her:
