Tonight, February 3 at 3 p.m. (EST), Public Funds Public Schools and the Network for Public Education are co-sponsoring a Zoom discussion between Nancy MacLean and me about the privatization of public schools.
All are welcome and there is no fee to attend.
The Public Funds Public Schools (PFPS) webinar series continues on February 3 with a very special event: “Public Education in Chains: The Road to Privatization of Our Nation’s Schools.” The webinar features Dr. Nancy MacLean, award-winning American historian and author of Democracy in Chains, in conversation with Dr. Diane Ravitch, President of the Network for Public Education.
PFPS webinars explore issues related to private school vouchers and the campaign’s goal of ensuring public funds are used to maintain, support, and strengthen public schools. This webinar is co-sponsored by the Network for Public Education.
Magnificent, these two! When I grow up, I want to be just like them.
Thank you! What a privilege to talk with Nancy MacLean. She is brilliant!
Is this discussion accessible after the fact? I was in class.
The Network for Public Education usually posts these after the fact.

By the way. During your discussion the new school funding formula was announced by Penny Schwinn for Tennessee:
https://www.tn.gov/education/news/2022/1/31/gov–bill-lee-s-4th-state-of-the-state-agenda-proposes—1-billion-new-recurring-funding-for-k-12-public-education-.html
It includes what Lee calls a billion dollar increase in spending on education. A new way of allocating money based “on the individual student” has apparently been derived. I am skeptical of anything Lee proposes
Watch out for whether this takes the form of a “backpack of cash” formula that the student can take to a virtual school, charter school, or bigoted private fundamentalist Christian madrassa.
My exact worry. Sounds like a slippery way to rob the needy
If I hadn’t been teaching, I would have been there with bells on. I hope video will be available. Democracy in Chains was eye opening to say the least.
These usually end up here:

I will post my discussion with Nancy MacLean as soon as it is available.
Video will be available
Thank you. I signed up for the Zoom session…then, the ice storm hit.
Linda: hope your ice storm is not as bad as the one that hit us last year. We were out of power a week and huddled around the woodstove in the 14 degree aftermath. I am still cleaning up as branches broken last year make it out of the trees
Thanks, Roy-
I can sympathize, we’ve had the 5 day power outages made worse because the water pump requires electricity. Fortunately, Thursday wasn’t like that.
The tornado in Xenia, Ohio- the deprivations and difficulties of rebuilding remain in my memory for comparison.
