On Wednesday February 10, I will host a Zoom discussion with Raynard Sanders about his new book, The Coup D’état of the New Orleans Public Schools: Money, Power, and the Illegal Takeover of a Public School System.
Sanders was the principal of a public school in New Orleans before the takeover of the district in 2005.
As you might guess from the title of his book, he considers the takeover to be illegal. It’s “results,” he contends are disastrous for the children of the district.
Listen in to hear the other side of the story.
Open the link and register to join the Zoom.
I think the entire FAKE fraudulent education reform movement to move public money into private accounts and away from public neighborhood schools is illegal.
Shouldn’t that be “coup d’écoles?”
Maybe but that’s the subtitle of his book.
Started reading Schoolhouse Burning last night and I take it back. Coup d’etat is quite appropriate.
I’m so mad! I really wanted to tune in and then an issue with my work came up and I just finished. Six minutes after end of the program! Will this be available later?
The program with me and Raynard Sanders talking about New Orleans has been moved an hour later. It will start at 8 pm, not 7 pm EST.
I’m doing a zoom of future education policy at DePaul University, starting at 6:30 pm EST/5:30 EST. I will post the link. Of course the NPE program will be archived.
Oh brother, I’ve been thinking it was tonight all day. Hear you tomorrow!
I missed the meeting so I’m watching the video. I am only part of the way in, but I already have to say how amazingly dastardly the actions of the privatizers were before and after Katrina. When told by Sanders in such close detail, the story is riveting. The racism! The blatant racism!
The book is riveting.
I’ll have to get it.
