The Republican Party and its malign leader Trump are working hard to suppress the vote, calculating that the bigger the turnout, the worse for them. Americans are standing for hours in long lines waiting to exercise their vote. This may be the most consequential election of our lifetimes.
Winston Churchill, addressing the House of Commons on October 31, 1944, said:
The foundation of all democracy is that the people have the right to vote. To deprive them of that right is to make a mockery of all the high-sounding phrases which are so often used. At the bottom of all the tributes paid to democracy is the little man, walking into the little booth, with a little pencil, making a little cross on a little bit of paper — no amount of rhetoric or voluminous discussion can possibly diminish the overwhelming importance of that point.
Anticipating tomorrow’s election:
“Existential dread for the future of democracy is its own beast, apparently.” –Meredith Brooke Baker Belk
As Gandhi once said “I think that American Democracy would be a good idea.”
Or was it Gonedie who said that?
SomeDAM doubtless knows that Gandhi referred in that quotation to “Western Democracy.” He was being cute.
But hey, as President Lincoln once said, this is the Internet, so quotations are malleable.
And, ofc, thanks to Glorious Leader Who Shines More Orange than Does the Sun, we live in a post-truth world, so anything goes. For example, did you hear about Hunter Biden accidentally mistaking the foreign intelligence service offices in Russia for a computer repair shop and then forgetting that he had done that?
We know about the laptop, ofc, because Ghouliani flew over the repair shop on his broom and snapped pictures of the screens with his Go-Pro.
Yes, I believe you are right.
It was Gonedie who said that.
The Gouli-Pro?
ROFLMSAO!
The “S” stands for “sweet”
Bob and SomeDAM: you guys are the Mike Nichols & Elaine May and the Stiller and Meara of these fora. You’ve–honestly–kept me going lately, along with the “Playing Around the World” videos from Playing for Change on YouTube. I’m living on a steady diet of both.
Oh my Lord. I sooooo love those Playing around the World videos! ❤
They are really uplifting Bob. I watch some of them (“Reggae Got Soul” by Toots, Taj Mahal, Ernest Ranglin, et al) over and over and never tire of them.
If you love those, Mark, you’ll also love this:
These Zoom/Skype vids are now common, but Dumbfounded did this ages ago. Awesome.
Abbott and Costello?
Of course!
The Ghouli Pro
Ghouliani is a pro
Snapping photos on the go
Took the photos from above
Of the laptop Bidens love
But Ghouliani’s lens is broken
So the words he sees as spoken
Never happened, weren’t spoke
Ghouli-Pro was simply broke
Oh, thanks a lot, Bob. I subscribed to “Dumbfoundead.”
By the way, Gonedie also agreed with Gandhi that Western Civilization would be a good idea but also added that Western Syphilization was NOT a good idea
Trump vehemently denies that he assaulted Civilization. “She’s not my type,” he said.
By the way, Gonedie was an advocate of anti-buyotics, do would undoubtedly be dismissed in America today as a crazy Socialist .
Choice
Civilization’s not my type
Far too cultured, for my like
Syphilization’s more for me
Down and dirty as can be
As popular as Churchill was, he lost the general election of 1945 to Clement Attlee of Labour. Churchill didn’t challenge or demean the whole election process or say that the results were fake as Trump is doing now before the official election day. Millions have already voted. Why anyone would vote for this vile, putrid lying pustule is beyond me, he is a truly hideous human being.
Joe Jersey,
Think “fascism” and it all makes sense. He has made every part of the federal government bend to his will to serve him, esp the Justice department.
Fascism is the right word especially with Attorney General Bill Barr ready to help Trump invoke the Insurrection Act to impose law and order if/when election results suggest that Trump is a loser and Trump’s armed militias create chaos.
These are not fantasies. Major stores in metro areas are boarding up windows in anticipation of Trump-inspired riots. Moreover, Bill Barr has the know-how to act on Trump’s recent talk about insurrection.
Barr was the Attorney General under George H.W. Bush when Bush invoked the Insurrection Act to quell the 1992 riots in Los Angeles following the acquittal of four white police officers in the brutal beating of Rodney King.
