Being raised in Kansas, a very deeply rooted Republican state, I would have been castrated if I came home and told my parents that I was a Democrat and voted against Bob Dole and Ronald Reagan.
BTW, the superspreader is coming to my state tomorrow to hold a rally. Interesting, isn’t it, that his doctor, the one who refuses to provide straight answers about his diagnosis, said a week ago that he should be able to resume normal activities on Saturday. I guess that Donnie Death already had this one planned.
This man is a menace to society. I feel sorry for people that actually believe this con artist. A doctor on MSNBC just said that a man Trump’s age and in his physical condition can take thirty or more days to clear the virus so that he won’t be infectious to others. Reckless is too kind a word to describe Trump’s actions.
So, on the phone with his dearie Hannity yesterday, Donnie Death refused to say whether he has tested negative for the Coronavirus. People his age typically take 25-30 days to clear the virus and no longer be infectious. Nonetheless, his snake doctor said a week ago that he could be ready to resume normal duties “as early as Saturday.”
Well, we now know why. Trump, the Superspreader, is planning a rally for my home state tomorrow.
Isn’t being intentionally negligent about others’ health and thus causing them extreme harm an actionable offense? Time for another impeachment. And then, after he is gone, a trial in the regular courts.
Another example of choice is Robert Marucci. He claimed Straight, but did Gay porn to support his mom. In a way, he was Bi. He was 18 then, a legal adult.
😐
Eddie, this not at all representative example, and the term “bisexuality” refers to a sexual orientation (to people who are romantically or sexually attracted to people of both sexes) and not to a career choice. There are literally millions of people who are bisexual. A 2011-13 CDC study found that in comparison to a previous study, more women reported having had sexual contact with other women: 17.4% in the current survey compared with 14.2% in the 2006-2010 survey. And higher numbers of both women and men identified as bisexual, 5.5% of women and 2% of men, compared with 3.9% and 1.2% respectively in the last survey. So, we’re talking about millions of people here. And these numbers are doubtless under-reported. They would/will be higher once anti-LGBTQX prejudice is eliminated.
Being gay is an inherent human condition, but being a Republican today, is a concerning choice. Today’s GOP is not the party of Lincoln or even Eisenhower. The party is infested with unhinged zealots, white supremacists and fringe groups. Liberal college professors are being targeted by conservative campus groups. Trump would have us believe that schools are teaching students to hate America. I would be fine with having a gay child, but I would be concerned if I raised a conservative zealot.
Here’s what can happen: you meet someone, you fall in love, you suddenly belong to a socially constructed “category of person.” The construct, btw, of “the homosexual” as a “type” of person was a creation of the late 19th-century European, white, male, cis medical establishment. Before that, there was simply behavior that many people engaged in, some more than others. Michel Foucault wrote about this.
I expect both of these interpretations of the data are true. The biological explains the behavioral. It makes perfect sense that there are many potential gene-combinations involved [rather than a ‘gay gene’]. This accounts for the wide spectrum we observe, i.e. some express as gay or straight from earliest childhood, some go through a bisexual phase while maturing. Many deal with childhood abuse, or adolescent rape, or having had a parent with secret gay life by choosing the opposite or bi orientation.
Both psychological and social are huge factors, and intertwined. In one family I knew (incl two generations, siblings and cousins), several worked through life changes via “deviant” sexual behavior. In that era, homo- or bi-sexuality was seen the same as exhibitionism, incest, compulsively visiting prostitutes: taboo, anti-social, secret. Think of it as parallel to expressing psychological trauma—or mental illness—via physical illness. So I see the genetic variability as a path offering everything from early, decisive orientation to some brains’ way of dealing with trauma. Meanwhile, it serves larger purposes in nature such as supplying both a brake on fertility and extra childcare.
BREAKING NEWS! Rather than bring covid to FL (& G-d knows the real #s there, thanks to it45 toady DeINSANEtis), it45 is like a child who is home sick, who demands that his friends come visit. The only difference, here, is that there are adults at home, & those adults tell the child,”NO–you’re sick–you could make your friends sick, NO ONE is coming over!!”
But…no adults at the WH to tell the child (a blubbering baby, really)
‘NO!!! (Actually, too many people at the WH are probably siick, themselves.)
So–come all ye faithful-come see CoVida on the balcony! You’d better
vote by mail or vote fast: you might wind up getting too sick to vote
later..
I was in my mid-20’s. The year and candidates escape me, but it must have been Easter dinner at my grandparents’ house. As we chatted, I said something about voting in the primary. (The Republican primary had not yet taken place.) My grandfather dropped his knife and fork, spluttering, “You’re—a registered Democrat?!” He left the table. Later he was fumbling through papers in his home office, warning me direly he’d cut me out of his will.
In my hometown, there was a place that had been donated to the city by a wealthy benefactor that came to be known as “People’s Park.” Herds of hippies hung out there regularly. One day there was a bunch there, protesting against Nixon. My Dad pulled up in front of the park and said to me, “If I ever see you in there, don’t bother coming back home.”
My dad (o.b.m.) was such a great guy &, usually, a Democrat. But for my first election, Dad called me (from work!) to tell me to vote for …Nixon! Since he was at work & I didn’t want to upset him, I just said, “Yes, Dad.” & then went out & voted for McGovern.(Dad thought him a “dippy hippy.”) Along came Watergate & all it’s fall out. After Nixon resigned, Dad said, “I’m sorry I voted for that crook.” I ‘fessed up & told Dad I hadn’t voted for Tricky. Not missing a beat, Dad said, “Good. One time, glad you didn’t listen to me!”
Dad, we love you & miss you.
(We cherish his Purple Heart–have it locked up in a safe deposit box. My sister & I are still FURIOUS that the wonderful veteran gave his P.H. to it45…& that the it had the nerve to take it.)
I can just imagine what he’d have to say…words a lot worse than mine have been!
My dad was also a Nixon supporter even though he was a card carrying union member. The current administration makes Nixon look like a decent guy by contrast.
This is, indeed, a wonderful film–thanks for posting, Diane!
Did any of you notice that the dad (who also wrote it or produced it or directed it) is Tom Hodges? Tom Hodges was a camp counselor in the very clever ’80s movie, Heavyweights, in which Ben Stiller acted like a maniac (but hilarious), & was outsmarted by kids, a very nice camp counselor & an heroic camp nurse. Tom Hodges played a very buff, mean camp counselor, & was in the funniest scene (IMO) in the film.
I recommend it! We all need a laugh these days…

Hilarious.

The video is brilliant, deserving of the many awards it has won.
This is phenomenal. Walter “Sandy” Silvers
Brilliant! Thank you!
Love it.
Very funny, O. Henry-esque with a soupçon of Kafka-esque and Twilight Zone thrown in for good measure.
Yes! Thanks, Diane, for the great laugh!
I didn’t expect that situational irony. I LOL!
I wonder how that skit would have played out back when Eisenhower was president and the KKK and other racists voted for Democrats.

Trump also, at one point, entirely lost his voice during this interview with his Sweetie.
Bob, thanks for the info on Michael Foucault. 🙂
As we all know, Gays, Lesbians and Bis have always existed. 🙂
The Bible mentions David & Jonathan and Naomi & Ruth. None of them were stoned and/or executed. 😐
Many famous people, past and present, were/are Lesbian, Gay or Bi. 😐
In 2020, unless we’re discussing closed societal groups, it’s almost a non-issue. 😐
Another example of choice is Robert Marucci. He claimed Straight, but did Gay porn to support his mom. In a way, he was Bi. He was 18 then, a legal adult.

Bob, I think I understand your post. 😐
Rob must have attracted to the men he was with, because Straight men usually don’t do Gay porn with men. 😐

Being gay or lesbian or bisexual can also be a choice. https://bobshepherdonline.wordpress.com/2019/03/17/is-sexual-orientation-innate/
I’m no expert on the subject. but everything I have read on the topic points to the fact that some people have a natural inclination toward being LGBT. There are numerous stories of people feeling trapped in the wrong gender or body.https://theconversation.com/stop-calling-it-a-choice-biological-factors-drive-homosexuality-122764
Yes, retired. Some people do report such a thing. Read my piece on the subject. I provided a link.
A little piece on a topic I refer to as bi-ology
Jason Collins is a good example. He was born Gay, chose to be in a Straight relationship for 8 years and then chose Gay again. 🙂

May be wearing dark blue tent, tie, and orange clown makeup.

I’m giving up drinking until this election is over.
Sorry. Bad punctuation.
I’m giving up. Drinking until this election is over.
Wasn’t Sanford, FL where Trayvon Marin murdered? ☹️
