Governor Cuomo slashed school funding across the state of New York. Other governors have found ways to protect their schools and children. Please sign the petition of the Network for Public Education Action, calling on Governor Cuomo to restore school funding. Schools cannot safely reopen with less money.

Honest question: Why is Cuomo doing this?
Cuomo has been in the pocket of hedge funders and the charter lobby since he first ran for governor.
Thank you for this information, Diane.
What’ is wrong with these politicians anyway? This is an honest question. I just don’t understand their “warped” thinking.
But he is a DEMOCRAT! My own party. Please let’s not give Democrats a bad name. He’s trying. We MUST band together!
What? It’s okay to challenge Democrats. I criticized Obama for his education policies for his entire eight years.
Right now, Robert, we must unite to defeat Trump. There is no alternative. If he cheats his way to a second term, our democracy is in Peril. Think of every issue you care deeply about and prepare to see it lose if this genuine con man wins.
Civil rights, public schools, climate change, goodbye.
YES.
Spite.
Cuomo despises teachers, especially since they have backed his opposition in the primaries.
Like Trump, he is a petty little man who will go to great lengths to stick it to anyone whom he perceives as having “wronged” him.
Cuomo is up to worse here in NY then just slashing school funding. (Come on, we had to know THAT was coming! Anything he can do to stress education in the state, he does!) Currently he is also playing a quite serious game with school districts throughout the state. He’s given the go-ahead for districts to re-open in the fall but has been totally vague about guidance, saying “districts have to have a plan,” b it offering no details as to what a good plan should be or any funding. It’s clear what he is doing: he is trying to direct parent frustration at districts and teachers. He knows that the one thing that has stopped his broader education agenda for the last many years has not been NYSUT (they are not particularly good at defending teachers broad scale), but the alliance between parents and their school districts throughout communities across the state. He is using the virus and school reopening as a way to drive a wedge between parents and districts. Districts are, in large part, totally overwhelmed with reopening and plans for it and that confusion, in many districts, is driving parents mad. This is all by design. Cuomo knows how to take advantage of a crisis for sure. He wants badly to bring in the Ed tech, the privatizers, and the whole corporate Ed world, but those pesky parents defending public education in districts have been his roadblock. Now he’s trying to work that all loose. You’ll see.
Wowzer.
TAP awards to college students are also being cut 20% in NY.
