The Davidson County School Board voted unanimously to close three “Knowledge Academy” charter schools, citing poor academic performance and financial mismanagement.
The charter board will appeal.

Local reporting on charter schools can be quite good- Ohio’s charter problems would not have come to light without Ohio newspapers.
I have a suggestion though- when exploring a charter go one step further past “the charter” (the contract between the government and the public-facing entity) and include the management company and/or the authorizer.
The public cannot get an accurate picture of what a charter school “is” if reporters accept only the named charter entity as a description of the schools. Charters are several layers of contracts. Go past the first one- “the charter” and look beneath to the other contractual relationships that make “the school”.
The schools are onions. The charter is just the skin.
So how can I find out what company is behind Knowledge Academy? Do we just look at the board members?

I remark that Davidson county corresponds to Nashville.
Mate,
What’s the difference between the Davidson County school board and the Metro Nashville school board?
I believe, they are the same. When you watch the video at the link, it talks about the “Metro school board” not the Davidson co schoolboard, while the text talks about the latter.
Also, the Davidson county gov is the same as the Nasville Metro gov. The exact name is “Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County”.
