I have posted several times about the disaster that is happening in Florida, which elected a governor who is a mini-me of Betsy DeVos and Jeb Bush. His name is Ron DeSantis. He did not talk much about education during the campaign, but now that he is governor-elect, he has chosen the F-team to carry out the wishes of ALEC, the Waltons, the Koch brothers, DeVos and every other malefactor of public education.
Peter Greene describes the members of the DeSantis team, every one of them seeking to divert public money to charter schools, religious schools, or for-profit scams. If you are the kind of person who likes to see train wrecks up close, please read this post.

This is a great example of a new talking point I’m using now. When asked recently by a friend why I was so “nuts” (I prefer passionate) about privatization, I think I finally found a good simple answer: Public education begins with the premise, “how can we best educate every child, regardless of their circumstances?” Charter schools begin with the premise, “how can we profit off of children’s educations?” His answer to me? “Oh, now I get it.”

DeSantis and company are a train wreck determined to smash the common good. Even though the election was won by a thin margin, there is no attempt at compromise. As Greene advises citizens will have to remain vigilant, ready to protest and file lawsuits, if necessary. It is unbelievable that not all the votes have been counted. Several bins of mail-in ballots were found in a mail facility, and four thousand votes were never counted because of “signature issues.” https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a25471100/florida-election-thousands-mail-ballots-not-counted/

Is this what the people of Florida want?

If you ever driven down the I-4 corridor and been to The Villages, the answer would be an overwhelming yes. They may be the most disconnected folks in the world. All they want is to live in their bigoted, secure bubble.

Florida has a large population of people who moved here from heavily taxed states. They move here to escape the taxes, yet they expect the same quality of government services. I don’t see how that is possible.

It’s so disturbing what is happening. Im actually in a state of disbelief m!! I’m in Florida and we fought hard for Gillum to win and to keep DeSantis out! Nothing good is coming of his win for education! Nothing! Greed corporations will rule the state and rape ed coffers! The fight is before us!

Well done, Peter & Diane. The only connection I didn’t see made is that incoming Erika Donald’s husband is FL Rep. Byron Donalds (R) from Naples. Florida is the epitome of The Swamp, but we gladly expand it. Am pleased to note that here in Jax we voted for Gillum—but it’s simply not enough at this point.

Put bluntly, DeSantis is extending his middle finger to the Florida voters who in 2012 voted down school vouchers by better than 55 to 45.

DeSantis is following the lead of Jeb Bush, Rick Snyder, and the entire legislature.
They are ignoring the state constitution and the voters.

The Florida Department of Education is hereby notified to cease and desist retaliation against Florida teacher and student whistelblowers at public and private cost. This cause of conspiracy to defame must halt after decades of damage to the People of the State of Florida.
Under corrupt Republican rule, the Florida Department of Education has led to the bottom and this legacy now comes to account by order of the will of the People of the State of Florida. We will seek class action for ongoing damages. No more grifters and their cronies as Florida Commissioner of Education. That ends now.
