This just in from the AFT:
AFT President Randi Weingarten and AFT Michigan President David Hecker on Michigan’s Election of Gretchen Whitmer for Governor
WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten on the election of Gretchen Whitmer for governor of Michigan:
“Gretchen Whitmer walks the walk for kids, for teachers and for working families because she’s one of us. An AFT member and a mom with kids in public schools, she understands the importance of investing in safe and welcoming public schools for all children, ensuring educators have a voice and are paid a living wage, making college affordable, and ending the exploitation of adjunct faculty. By electing Whitmer, voters repudiated the DeVos agenda of defunding and decimating public schools in favor of the for-profit schools that took root in Michigan and failed to help kids. Whitmer will champion expanded healthcare and safe drinking water, and will fight for decency and fairness to put a check on President Trump’s cruel and inhumane agenda. I was proud to spend Election Day campaigning for Whitmer, and AFT members look forward to a governor who will work with us to make life better for Michiganders.”
AFT Michigan President David Hecker on Whitmer’s election:
“Michigan voters took our state back on Election Day with the elections of Gretchen Whitmer, Garlin Gilchrist, Jocelyn Benson and Dana Nessel as our new state leaders. Voters said ‘enough already’ of an education policy controlled by the DeVos agenda, which didn’t serve our students. On the federal level, voters said we must have a check on President Trump by re-electing Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Reps. Debbie Dingell, Dan Kildee and Brenda Lawrence, and by electing Haley Stevens, Rashida Tlaib and Andy Levin to the House of Representatives. Moreover, Michigan voters said we want fair elections and more-accessible voting with the passage of proposals 2 and 3.
“Voters across Michigan rejected the politics of division and realized the strength of their united voice. For months, our members have been knocking on doors, making calls and mobilizing to put these candidates in office. Now, we look forward to working alongside them to build a state where public schools, healthcare and working-family values are the top priorities.”

Welcome, Michigan, back into the Democratic fold, after 8 yrs. Rick Snyder has done so much damage to public schools and other public institutions. Here’s hoping the new gov, bolstered by populace chagrined at how Snyder brought the state to its knees after just beginning to recoup the faltering auto industry, can turnthe ship around.

Congratulations, Michigan!
In ILL-Annoy, the “worst governor in America” was handily defeated early on in the race.
Sure hope Tony Evers beats Scott Walker.

Rebuking DeVos – a great day for Michigan.
The new Democratic governor can purge promotion of K-12 privatization from state universities e.g. Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University. With hope, the governor will act to stop the betrayal of trust when public employees undermine common goods from within.

Anybody watching the LIVE news report where Trump is speaking (12:27 pm EST)? Anybody? Anybody? He’s not worried, nor embarrassed about any thing. NOBODY would understand his tax returns. Follow closely. DeVos was nominated (as was Kavanaugh) as a part of HIS cabinet. The US public voted all this in. Snyder is out in MI. He poisend children in Flint (they have no future). But we will HPOE… we will hope… We The People… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betsy_DeVos#Personal
They are all one in the same.
We can only Hope.

If I was Devo I really would be embarrassed as hell. I mean you think this woman would take a clue, accept the hint? Devos, people are not feeling your political ideas and especially your educational idea of vouchers. I mean come on devos, it has been rejected 22 times in a row and never winning among voters anywhere in the country. Bye vouchers, bye devos and don’t let the door hit you on the way out the barn.

But what can be done about the DeVos ugliness on the lovely lake in Michigan – her monstrosity of a palace that looks like a water-logged book with curled pages?

What can be done? Reminds me of the “The Hobyahs” book (children’s book published in 1977). https://www.amazon.com/Hobyahs-old-story-Simon-Stern/dp/0133925226
“HOBYAH! “HOBYAH! HOBYAH! Tear down the turnip house! Chase off the old man! Chase of the old woman! Put the little girl in the Hobyah bag!”.
The little dog Turpie ate them all up. And then there were no Hobyahs.
Can we eat them all up? By votes?
No, that’s WAR. That is WHY WAR IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA https://www.amazon.com/Why-War-Never-Good-Idea/dp/0060753854
But that is what appears we have to do to keep this USA alive and prospering. Trump thinks we can’t understand.
I just don’t want to do it. I think it’s wrong. As Alice Walker sees: “War eats everything…”. (like little dog Turpie did).
Her final page in the book:
“Now, suppose You
Become War
It happens
To some of
The nicest
People
On Earth:
& one day
You have
To drink
The
Water
In this place.”
We just can’t understand it though, can we?
As long as we have that clean water.

Won the House- I’ll take that, the governorships that were flipped and the legislative chambers flipped in N.Y., Conn. and Colorado. It’s an important start for a democracy hobbled by Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression.
