A group of teens and their supporters had a “die-in” in front of the White House to raise awareness of the need for gun control.

Two friends recruited 15 others and called themselves Teens for Gun Reform. They expected to lie still for three minutes, the time it took for Nicolas Cruz to kill 17 people in Parkland, Florida. As word spread via social media, the group expanded to more than 100.
The youth will lead us. They are courageous and idealistic. They are the change we have been waiting for.

Joy Reid referred to this as a “die-in”.

As usual the kids give me hope.
But their choice of terms could be better. Trump would easily prevail in any “lie-in”. No one lies more than he does.

The students called it a “die-in”. The media called it a lie-in. Words matter.

I too thought it was a die-in, not a lie-in.
Die-in was a common protest tactic during the Vietnam War
And effective

Bravo to these students, they really offer some hope to us all.
Slight digression but here’s an incredible side story from the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School: Quote: Carly Novell, a student survivor of the horrific Parkland school carnage, recalled the time when her grandfather, Charles Cohen, survived the first reported mass shooting in America’s history by hiding in a closet almost 70 years ago in 1949. On Wednesday, when reported gunman Nikolas Cruz sprayed bullets at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School using an AR-15, Carly managed to escape unhurt by doing the exact same thing, according to CNN.
Novell’s grandfather was living with his family in Camden, New Jersey, during the post-war years when 28-year-old Howard Unruh committed America’s first mass shooting. In September of 1949, Unruh murdered 13 people and wounded three others in a 20-minute shooting rampage, according to HuffPost. Smithsonian Magazine reported that Unruh had erected a fence as part of a squabble with the Cohens, who lived next door. One night when Unruh returned from work, he found the fence missing. End quote.
We can certainly question whether that was the first mass shooting if you ignore all the mass killings of native Americans and blacks. But the fact that both she and her grandfather had to hide in the closet from a crazed gunman is mind-blowing and horrific, a tragic coincidence for one family to bear.
Sorry, can’t provide the link which will put me in moderation hell. Just do a duck duck go search. I got the quote from the “inquisitr” web site.

Real change will not take place until the GOP is voted out of its majority in every branch of the federal government and also loses its hold on the majority of states.
To bring about change, in 2018, vote out Republicans in every state and in both Houses of Congress smashing their majorities into garbage dumps where they belong.
Then in 2020, vote that orange fluff of a Gotham trickster out of the White House and send his extremist, Alt-Right autocratic VP packing too.

But first the slez and corruption must be cleared away by this administration…then start over. Eliminate the opposition? Nice way to create a dictatorship on the way to bankruptcy.
I wish the children would protest child abuse, drug abuse, vehicle deaths and abortion with such conviction. Gun violence is way down the list as a cause of death for any age group. Yes something needs to be done but look at the adult outsiders who are leading these students. Consider what they are ultimately trying to accomplish. What constitutional right are you willing to give up?
