This is our president. This is the candidate who told blue collar workers he cared about them and would fight for them.

Trump employed a crew of 200 undocumented Polish workers who worked in 12-hour shifts, without gloves, hard hats or masks, to demolish the Bonwit Teller building on Fifth Avenue, where the 58-story, golden-hued Trump Tower now stands.
“The workers were paid as little as $4 an hour for their dangerous labor, less than half the union wage, if they got paid at all.
“Their treatment led to years of litigation over Mr. Trump’s labor practices, and in 1998, despite frequent claims that he never settles lawsuits, Mr. Trump quietly reached an agreement to end a class-action suit over the Bonwit Teller demolition in which he was a defendant.
“For almost 20 years, the terms of that settlement have remained a secret. But last week, the settlement documents were unsealed by Loretta A. Preska, a United States District Court judge for the Southern District, in response to a 2016 motion filed by Time Inc. and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Judge Preska found that the public’s right to know of court proceedings in a class-action case was strengthened by the involvement of the “now-president of the United States.”

Of course, the pressure is on to get rid of all class action cases and require arbitration. Gutting the Consumer Protection Bureau is pretty much assured. Then there all of the federal judges Trump will fire and replace in order to avoid this kind of exposure of his own deeds, those of kith and kin, and his “great friends” of the day.
That revelation is just the tip of the spear. There is so much more. Trump is walking terminal cancer for the U.S.

Trump isn’t destroying the United States alone. Most of the GOP is helping him.
Why don’t we call it what it is? Treason.
When you set out to destroy your own country, it is treason.
But there doesn’t seem to be anyone left in the halls of government willing to persecute this subversion and treason, and any citizen that tries on their own will be branded a terrorist, executed and/or hunted down.
He violates the oath he took at his inaugural to protect and defend the country and the Constitution. He violates the emoluments clause every day because he continues to own an international business and make new deals in foreign countries. Were he a decent person, he would have divested himself of his holdings. He didn’t even pretend to put them in a blind trust. His company is run by his sons.
I recall this incident from the news back in the ’80s. It offended me then, and it offends me now. Rarely does anyone report on the amount of exploitation the undocumented experience in this and other countries. They sometimes labor all day, and then get stiffed by their employer. Trump represents a much larger scale of exploitation, but exploitation is Trump’s signature. The rest of the country are getting a taste of Trump’s grand scale exploitation in the tax bill and various executive orders as he and his kleptocratic cronies fleece our nation and our people.
As long as he opposes abortion, his base loves him.
Can you imagine if all the excellent reporting that has been awakened since November, 2016 would have happened DURING the campaigns?
As long as Trump is opposed to abortion and sends coded messages to racists, they love him.
Trumps deplorable supporters clearly want the freedom to take away everyone else’s freedoms.
Trump and his “excesses” have never surprised anyone I know, here in NYC.
But bad publicity is better than no publicity at all. He’ll just turn it around and make it a positive with a, “Well of course I hired them at $4.00 an hour! I’m a businessman. How else do you expect me to compete!?”.
And his base will cheer for him.
As much as so many people couldn’t believe he was actually elected President of the United States of America, I was just as mystified at the popularity of his TV series, “The Apprentice”, way back in the day. The allure escaped me to the point that I never watched an episode. I avoided it like the plague.
Because they have complete and utter contempt for working people.
The Trump family are probably laughing at the Trump voters today. That family will make out like bandits on the tax bill. Many, many of the GOP Senators and House members will also do VERY well. They voted themselves a huge raise.
I noticed the other day that you never see Trump Administration people doing any charity or outreach work. It’s just weird. Every President in my lifetime made at least a pretense of public appearances with ordinary folk on the weekends. It’s as if they clock out on Thursday and then clock back in Monday, like they’re making sure they don’t exceed 32 hours. I’ve never seen anything like it.
