This is a history of the fall and rise of public education in Philadelphia.
For years, the schools were the plaything of politicians, the business community, and civic leaders.
Failure after failure.
One disastrous experiment after another.
Many millions squandered on privatization.
Today, state control ends and a new chapter begins.
This is great news as I have followed Philadelphia’s story on your blog for years. Congratulations to the public education activists who made this happen! Happy day!

Thank you for this interesting post. The young people of Philadelphia deserve better than to be a perpetual guinea pig for every lame, profitable gimmick and gadget that comes along. They need the community to invest in them and their future. I do hope they fund the schools fairly and give students the supports they need.
