Trump announced that he would donate 3 months of his salary (about $78,000), while slashing $2 billion from the budget of the Interior Department, which manages the National Parks.
The cost of every weekend trip to Mar-A-Lago is $3 million.
No doubt the Parks Service is grateful for the generous $78,000. They would be even happier to have the funding needed to care for our precious national parks.

That dump is so mean and nasty, this is a big EAGLE to the nation. It’s his F.U. America. And then of course, he is delusinal enough to think he would get something named after him.
Do the math. This is only .078% of 2 billion dollars. Talk about reprehensible. This potus is MAD.

Thanks, FLERP! In the “Math field for scientiic work, ” it is .078%. I checked with my husband who is a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer who worked as an aerospace engineer. Just another way of notating this percentage.
I got the same as you and he corrected me to the standard notation.

I don’t even know what any of that means, so I’ll have to trust your husband on that.

If one takes the 78,000 as a percent of $2 billion, it is actually 0.0039%
But more precisely, Department of Interior is slated to lose about $1.6 billion, so 78,000 would be about 0.0049% of that.
Not that any of this means anything at all.
That $78,000 will not even pay the salaries of the people who have to figure out which park services to cut back on or eliminate.

Donald Trump is a glib devil, isn’t he? This is just disgraceful conduct, and I’d say shame on him if he had any capacity for feeling shame…. Sociopaths generally do not, alas.

AOL has a feature story today about Trump generously donating his salary to the national parks. Generous? Sad! It mentions not a word about his proposed cuts:

I’ll be using one of those national parks-the Ozark National Scenic Riverways come Thursday to float, fish, camp, enjoy nature, hang out with the mink, otters, eagles, sparrows, squirrels, fish, crawdads, and many other of our non homo supposedly sapien fellow life beings.
When (if?) I see an NPS employee, I’ll give him/her a penny to put towards the good cause and that penny will be a larger gift in terms of a percentage of my total wealth than this political theatre money is to the Salmon* Swamp Monster’s total wealth.

This is a total insult to the American people. This is a total insult to the National Park Service employees who manage and protect our national parks, our natural resources. It is like Trump tossing a dime to a beggar, in this case the American people, and think he is doing something great for that beggar. Shame on him. It is a total sin what he is doing to this nation and, in fact, to the world.

Given that the Park Service offers beauty and enjoyment for millions of Americans, I’d have to say that the better analogy may be cutting off a finger of a virtuoso violinist.
The irony is that the parks actually generate billions of dollars for the gateway communities located nearby, an amount that far exceeds the amount that spent to operate and maintain them.

I cherish our national parks, as well. My wife, who is an adopted American (Born in Russia), has yet to experience any of them, but she has seen a glimpse on TV, in Ken Burns’ series.
The President’s budget has only proposed a cut in the funding for the National Park Service. The congress will have to develop the final budget, and make whatever adjustments are necessary.
If anyone truly wishes to see a continuation of the funding, or an increase to the funding for our national wonders, I suggest that he/she contact her congressional representatives, and make their wishes known.

The donation has a caveat; it is to be used to maintain historic battlefields.

I read this last night and I don’t remember what media source I read it from, but it was from a major traditional media source and there was no mention of the $2 billion in cuts to that department.
That media piece must have been copied and pasted from a White House news bulletin. Great manipulated PR at no cost to the malignant narcissist in the White House. The master conman, liar-chief, alleged traitor, and serial groper wins again.
From the piece I read, Trump’s deplorable and ignorant followers will trumpet how great their god of greed is.

Bill and Melinda Gates did the same thing a few years ago when they announced through their fake positive image building PR machine that they were donating $1 million dollars to teachers so those teachers could buy classroom supplies, and at the same time, Gates was spending hundreds of millions or even billions to destroy the public schools.
