Carl Paladino released a disgusting racist statement expressing his hopes for 2017.
The Buffalo school board, of which he is a member, passed a resolution calling on him to resign. Paladino has already declared that he won’t resign.
It now falls to MaryEllen Elia, the State Commissioner of Education, to remove him for conduct unbecoming a public official.
Here is the resolution:
Resolution Regarding the Conduct of Board Member Carl Paladino
December 29, 2016
Submitted by Board Member Hope Jay
Whereas, in a December 23, 2016 edition of the publication Artvoice, School Board Member Carl Paladino made the following statements in response to the questions of “What would you most like to happen in 2017?” and “What would you like to see go away in 2017?”:
1. Obama catches mad cow disease after being caught having relations with a Hereford. He dies before his trial and is buried in a cow pasture next to Valerie Jarret, who died weeks prior, after being convicted of sedition and treason, when a Jihady cell mate mistook her for being a nice person and decapitated her.
2. Michelle Obama. I’d like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla.” And,
Whereas, Mr. Paladino acknowledged that he made these statements; And, Mr. Paladino is an elected official charged with the responsibility to represent children and families in a district comprised of over 70% Black, Brown, Asian, Immigrant and other minority students and families; And, Mr. Paladino took an oath to ensure that students are afforded an environment which is free from fear and respects diversity within the school district and the community and is subject to all district policies;
And,
Whereas, These unambiguously racist, morally repugnant, flagrantly disrespectful, inflammatory and inexcusable comments by Mr. Paladino have garnered both local, national, and
international attention that reflects negatively on the Buffalo Board of Education, the City of Buffalo and its leadership and its citizens, the State of New York, and every decent human being in America and abroad who has been shocked and offended by his words;
And,
Whereas, Mr. Paladino’s behavior has irrevocably impacted the work of the Buffalo Board of Education by negatively impacting the Buffalo City School District in its goal of safeguarding
the rights of all students in promoting a safe and healthy environment in which students are treated respectfully, by everyone, And, the inalienable right, guaranteed by the New York State Constitution and the Dignity for All Students Act, afforded to the children of the City of Buffalo to be provided an education free of discrimination and harassment;
And,
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Buffalo Board of Education demands that Mr. Paladino immediately resign within 24 hours from his position with the Board. In the event that Mr.
Paladino declines to resign within 24 hours, the Board resolves that it shall retain outside legal counsel to file a 306 Petition with NYS Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia to pursue Mr. Paladino’s removal from the Buffalo Board of Education. Recommendations for outside counsel shall be made by the General Counsel.
President Barbara A. Nevergold, Theresa Harris-Tigg, Paulette Woods, Sharon Belton-Cottman, Jennifer Mecozzi, Hope R. Jay

The members of the Buffalo Board of Education supporting a resolution to have board member Paladino resign gives all Americans hope for decent and inclusive leaders elected to public school boards.

If action is not taken to remove this vile and racist person from the Buffalo School Board, then it gives carte blanche to other like-minded individuals to express their own hate-filled comments. Was Palladino empowered to express his thoughts by the election of Donald Drumpf?

This is why Trump’s election hurts so much. We are about to inaugurate a vulgarian to the highest office in the land. So, then, why can’t a vulgarian serve on a local school board? There are no standards of decency today, and I think it resonable to assume that Pallodino will refuse to resign, will fight any petition to have him removed, and will have vocal and public defenders in that fight.

Let’s hope this is a beginning of a trend and not a Pyrrhic victory.

The BoE should not “ask” Paladino to resign….they should DEMAND his resignation. He is a swine, a parasite, and no one should be exposed to his deeply bigoted rants EVER. And he is a supporter of Trump who should denounce him publicly…but won’t.

May the fall of vicious racists like Paladino be a heavy weight on Trump.

Good for this school board. This creature has been such a stain on a city that is trying desperately to come back to national relevance from its national reputation as a living hell substitute with its constantly disappointing and choking sports teams and endless snow (fun fact: Buffalo does not get the most snow in the Lower 48). As the local phrase there goes, “Buffalo Rising” with its investments in resuscitating an architectural gem by attracting businesses and a developing waterfront. But with this specimen of Paladino elected to their school board? Making the comments he made? And doubling down on them? What does this say about the citizens of Buffalo, NY? For the sake of saving an already-fragile, tenuously developing positive public image for this city and the region, dump this plague-ridden troglodyte so as to prevent disinvestment.

I assume there is a legal reason why they cannot just “terminate” Paladino. You know, like FIRE him!
Or if they like him, and believe there is hope in helping educate him toward a more virtuous character, why not lay him off for a while and put in an 18 month “emergency” board member”?
Does Cuomo have any say in this?

Stieg,
The decision is with the Commissioner of Education.
Carl P can’t change. He is a billionaire and he doesn’t believe in political correctness. He is known for making racist and sexist comments. No regrets.

Now, all the U.S. has to do is impeach Littlefingers Donald Trump for similar reasons and throw him out of the White House, but I don’t expect that to happen as long as the Alt-Right, tea party, tyrannical dominated GOP holds the majority in both Houses of Congress.

Don’t know if he has committed any impeachable offense. I am sure they are coming.

I understand that Littlefingers has a slew of pending court cases unless he settled them all, but I haven’t heard that he did settle them all. Maybe one of them will end up being grounds for impeaching him.

I’m amazed he got as far as he did. Good Lord. Just an awful, mean-spirited person.
Other than his money, what possible value could this person add to a school? This is how he treats people?

Chiara, we really could say much the same about Trump.
“Other than his money (which, who knows how much he really has, and how much he owes Russia, among others, but his supporters “think” he has tons of money), what possible value could this person add to our country? This is how he treats people?”

He should voluntarily resign, and should never have been out in the public eye in any way since his email antics years ago.
Trump should also resign before taking office. And Pence for enabling this mess.

That’s great that the BOE is demanding Carl’s resignation (isn’t the 24 hours up now?)
But in the above resolution, when it came time to vote on it, Larry Quinn and Patti Pierce both voted against it. In other words, they supported what Carl Paladino said.
Now the remaining members of the Buffalo School District Board of Education need a resolution to demand the resignations of both Quinn and Pierce. No one who says or supports the kind of language that Carl Paladino used deserves to be making any decisions about the children of the Buffalo School District. All three have to go!
