The sponsors of HR 5 have withdrawn the bill from consideration, according to late reports.
Many groups, including the Network for Public Edication, opposed HR5 and sent thousands of letters to members of the House. They listened.
Members and allies of NPE sent nearly 10,000 letters. Read here about reasons we opposed HR 5.

Apparently there seems to be conflicting information….

I suspect that there will be another bill of some sort that would achieve the same purpose or maybe the bill will be disguised and attached to something bigger to get it through.
I don’t trust any of the corporate reformers any more than I could pick up my house with one hand and carry it on foot across the country balanced on top of my head.

Agreed. To me, all it looks like is two factions of the ed reform “movement”, fighting. It’s the “accountability hawks” and the “choice” people versus the “equity people”. The equity people always lose in ed reform battles, no one pays them any attention at all, so that’s a done deal.
I’d like to hear from someone else entirely, actually. Are they busy over at the Dept of Labor? I like some of their education ideas. Bring in some temp workers 🙂

I’m actually a little disappointed. President Obama was threatening to veto. I didn’t like the GOP bill, but if it strips enough power from the DOE to force a veto, it couldn’t have been as awful as I’d thought.

Hello, all. I wrote a follow-up on the play-by-play of HR 5. It seems that Rep Amash’s pronouncement of HR 5 as “pulled” was premature. What is certian is thta HR 5 will not be flying through the House on its way to an easy vote:

I hope this is a sign that legislators may (finally!) be held accountable for their votes on this issue…and they might actually have to listen to something other than a lobbyist for Pearson or the Gates Foundation.

Rep. Amash is an interesting Rep. Only Republican who voted against Keystone in the House.
