Secretary of Education Arne Duncan invited readers on Twitter to think about “what if” and he is getting a whole lot of “what ifs” from teachers and parents.
Go to hashtag #whatif and see what others are saying, then post your own “what if.”

I don’t do Twitter.
I will tweet for you. #whatif ……fill in the blank. Here’s a sample
#whatif @arneduncan listened to and respected classroom teachers
#whatif education was run by an educator
Will do but it appears I am in Twitter jail. Can’t tweet or retweet. May have upset Arne.
what if the secretary of ed. was committed to an equitable public education?
Linda, could you tweet this for me…
#whatif@arneduncan we committed all middle schools to project based learning
I tweeted that under my Twitter handle, @nblumengarten
Reblogged this on Ogo Okoye-Johnson and commented:
Please let Arne know what you think right away!
Yep. Twitter turned out to be a bad idea for Bill Cosby, too.
I think we,re maxing out Twitter. Keep those tweets coming so the twits will get the message.
What if we didn’t waste so much time and money with the overuse of standardized testing? (Someone please tweet that.)
Now…. whatif…. all of the tweets could be compiled and sent to someone like Ed Schultz. Maybe he would run a story.
I’d like to give Arne “what for”, as my grandparents used to say. I just fired off a bunch of tweets myself.
What if every child was in a classroom wher the teacher had time to give individual attention! What if ever teacher had the supplies and time to plan those out of the box lessons that students remember and learn from.! What if teachers received the respect from the nation as is given other professions! What if these educational reformers cared more about children and less about dollars! Finally, What if everyone would realize the effect of poverty on education and No child ever went to bed hungry!
My two biggest #whatifs, which I’ve been tweeting, are :
#whatif we use VAM to eval Harvard based on the growth of US students under your leadership? Fair? @arneduncan
AND
#whatif AUTHENTIC TEACHER VOICES are part of the #edpolicy convo? @arneduncan
We need to blow up Twitter with this! We need to “break the Internet” with our message for public education!!
whatif Coleman had a clue?
what if Duncan had one too?
whatif Gates was not so vain?
whatif VAM was not insane?
whatif Chetty didn’t pick?
whatif Deasy wasn’t sick?
whatif fraudsters had to pay?
whatif teachers had a say?
whatif testing didn’t rule?
whatif testing was a tool?
whatif charters didn’t steal?
whatif “reform” was really real?
whatif all abuse was stopped?
whatif DOE was dropped?
whatif Alice never fell
down the rabbit hole as well?
What if Arne’s hubris was not so destructive to every child, teacher, and school in the nation.
What if you would quit Arne, because I am sick of a know-nothing former basketball player running education, because he played b ball with the President.
I urge everyone to check out the website for the Commercial Club of Chicago. It’s an elite club with a limited membership somewhere between 350-500 of the richest and most influential people. On their site is a link entitled “New Schools for Chicago”, which is basically about charters taking the place of public schools. They used to link to Chicago Charter Schools International.
Arne Duncan was the CEO (not superintendent) of Chicago Public Schools. I’m sure you know that. Mayor Daley was a member of the CCC while in office. He appoints CPS board members, six in all. There were always 3 from CCC while Daley was in office. The long term President of CPS Board is a guy named Vitale, a member of CCC.
Obama became President. Rahm Emanuel became his Chief of Staff, and Duncan his Sec. of Education. Then Rahm becomes mayor of Chicago, and Bill Daley replaces him as Chief of Staff. Bill Daley is a long time member of CCC. Now Rahm is a member of a member of CCC and continuing where Daley and Duncan left off creating charters in Chicago.
The current Sec. of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, is a long time member of CCC, and I’m sure pushing this next disastrous trade deal TP something. She was a member of the CPS Board in the past under Daley.
CCC is also the author, and the driving force behind legislation that intended to do aways with the teacher and public employee pension systems in IL. They still are. But now they got one of their own elected governor. Bruce Rauner and his wife are both members of CCC.
Many have heard of ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Commission. CCC is like Chicago’s version of ALEC.
I like Obama as President, but I think he simply has too many debts he might owe to CCC for getting elected, and Duncan was just one favor he did for them.
I urge you to check out the members list. Many of them would personally benefit from changing pensions to 401k’s as Rauner would like to do.
What if district & charter educators worked with eachother to help students, as they do in St Paul, Minnesota. http://www.twincities.com/opinion/ci_27230018/st-paul-dual-benefits-from-dual-credit-pioneer.htm
