Veteran journalist Bob Braun reports that mayoral candidate Ras Baraka’s campaign bus was burned soon after the launch of his campaign.
As you know, the race for mayor of Newark represents a pivotal struggle over not only the future of Newark, but the future of its children and its public schools. And for that matter, the future of democracy. Newark’s citizens have been deprived of any role in governing their schools for 20 years.
Ras Baraka is an experienced educator who he wants to stop the Christie Administration’s assault on the Newark public schools. He wants to end the giveaway of public schools to charter operators.
This will be a mean race. His major opponent supports charters and privatization and corporate control.

What are the odds that a candidate who supports the public schools would have an accidental fire on his campaign bus the day he starts his election run?
This may be the first act of violence in the war over public education—a sure sign that the robber barons out to profit from public education may be starting to worry that their thirty year war to take over teaching America’s children might fail just as they start to see the flames of hell flickering at the end of their long, dark tunnel. For the road they travel surely leads to hell for the rest of us.
When will the assassinations start?
When will the IRS start auditing anyone who’s identified as a leader of the movement to save the public schools?
When will conservative talk radio and TV start to libel and slander anyone who speaks out against the Wolves who want to eat Sesame Street.
If you doubt that this sort of thing could happen in the United States, take a long, hard look at our country’s history.

I have been writing about civil unrest and strife for a long time. Not that it matters, but I hope this does lead to an arrest . . . .

We have to help him replace the bus. Get in touch with his campaign headquarters and start a phone number that people can text money to. I don’t know how that is done but I know it exists if someone more tech savvy than myself could arrange for this. I would donate. He has to know right away he has support and that this is just a bump in the road. Even if he had insurance it may take a while and will not replace everything I’m sure.

All they need is a PayPal account (easy to sign up for) and anyone may easily donate to their campaign once the button is on their website.
