The corporate types who hate teachers’ unions and public schools have been running a billboard and mass media campaign in New York and New Jersey.
But they are not the only ones who know how to frame a message.
Here is a fabulous billboard posted on a major highway in Colorado by critics of the nutty testing regime imposed by No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top.
I wish New Yorkers would take a page out of Colorado’s play book! Carole Terry

I’m amazed how many parents and teachers have no idea that they can opt their children out of the testing. Of course, I didn’t know either until last year when I began coming to this blog. I now tell everyone I can, at least the ones I dare to without fear of losing my job. If enough people opted out, the test would be useless. I wish I had the money to do a billboard like this!
Don Perl, leader, educator, and activist, is the FIRST teacher across this nation to say NO to giving his students the repressive CSAP testing. Yeah for Don Perl who started the Coalition for Better Education. Go to: thecbe.org. Lots of OPT OUT information here. Also, because Don is bilingual, he has materials written in Spanish as well. Go forth and tell others. Parents need to protect their children from the yahoos who are making money off their children and degrading them at the same time.
And now what do you do Colorado? It’s not easy but you move forward to an assessment that serves kids well. http://savingstudents-caplee.blogspot.com/2013/12/accountability-with-honor-and-yes-we.html and a system of education that takes kids from where they are without the shame of continuous negative failure.http://savingstudents-caplee.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-personal-map-to-success.html
Yes, we field tested this at the Milwaukee Village School in Milwaukee, WI in 1995-98. Although we were run out of town we stuck with it long enough to see what works. Our books tell the story http://www.wholechildreform.com
It’s time to move forward
I know many teachers in Colorado agree with this billboard. They are just afraid to speak up for fear of suddenly being run out of their jobs. I am newly retired and really miss my students, but the stress was adversely affecting my health. It is a sad state of affairs here!
