Any teachers out there from Douglas county? The superintendent really has the lingo down. I can’t say I know any more about the education than I did before, but it sounds like the basis for a successful marketing campaign. (tongue in cheek)

Yep. See my response to the EduShyster post.
Oh yeah, Liz has the lingo down, if you consider meaningless pap lingo! Here is just a small piece from her latest email in which she labors to explain one of the CITE standards we are to be evaluated on: “We know that you are pioneers- blazing new trails to free education from the standardized testing mania of the past ten years by showing that good teachers can demonstrate the growth and achievement of their students on what matters most. Change is hard…we know…try to take a deep breath because we are here to support you in: (1) Being in compliance with the law and (2) Doing what is best for your students. 🙂 Again, you need to start to build it (put the pieces together), but it will not count toward your raise for FY 2014 – IF we have money for a raise.”
Oh, the district is blazing new trails alright… must be why I am required to give and score a new district balanced assessment (read: standardized test) next week and another 2 times before the year’s end. And my principal made it very clear at the last staff meeting that if any of us post any comments online we’d better not use our real name or the school’s name or the principal’s name…
I could go on, but I’ll spare you. But it explains why I am actively job hunting!

Good luck on the job hunt. I’m not sure I want to “teach”, if that is what you want to call it, any more. Jobs are scarce in my state although there always seems to be a charter hunting for its next victim. I can’t bring myself to volunteer.

I like the mention of charter hospitals and Surgery for America. The analogy sounds ridiculous, yet people are willing to do this to our schools.
