Steven Singer wrote these five terrific posts last year. I didn’t see them when they appeared. Probably you didn’t either. You should.
#5: Raiders of your lost pension.
#4: Forget corporations….unions really are people.
#3: The multiple choice mind.
#2: A curriculum of compassion.
#1: Franz Kafka and the metamorphosis of teacher evaluations
Read them and enjoy!
I teach Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” and afterwards have the students substitute their names into the first sentence, then what they have transformed into. One year I had a student named Steven Singer, who had transformed into Donald Trump, and his tale was called “The Trumphosis”! Everyone got fired, except for me! Don’t know if this writer is the same Steven Singer, but glad I didn’t cut this wonderful piece of fiction from my curriculum to please the Common Corers!
It wasn’t me, Shelley, but it sounds like an excellent assignment. I may steal it if I ever get to teach Kafka. 😀
Great writing, Steven–sorry I can’t take credit for it! Keep on fighting the good fight!
Steven,
Where can I find a copy of the Quixote surrealist picture?
Thanks,
Duane
The piece on raiding teacher pensions… oh boy…
https://gadflyonthewallblog.wordpress.com/2014/07/22/raiders-of-your-lost-pension/
It’s one of the most disgusting ed deform pieced I’ve yet read—and I’ve read a lot. Remember this piece next time I see Frederick Hess’s name or ugly mug on some on-line text or video.
