Rocketship had planned to open 8 new charters in Milwaukee, but, according to this report from the Milwaukee Teachers’ Union, the expansion has been scaled back dramatically due to low enrollment. The company’s financial plan shows only one charter school in the year 2019. Teachers opposed the introduction of 8 Rocketship charters because they would drain more resources from the public schools, and because it relies heavily on computer instruction, has no art or music classes, and relies on non-certified teachers.
…this would explain why Rocketship hijacked student records and tried to keep them?
Maybe if no one signs up for the charters, they will simply go away. The more people learn which charters suck, perhaps the more they will not appreciate that “choice.”
I wish, but parents have various reasons for bring their kids to charters. They do need to be pruned back greatly and with a lot more regulation.
These charters are beginning to see the writing on the wall. They are going to be subject to a lot more regulation in the future. Students may even need to apply to a school district first and go through an approval process , because the home campus of the student would have to be lacking, offers a specialized program or there is child care issues that can’t be resolved at the home campus. There will also need to be further regulations and the requirement of attracting a fair amount of students with disabilities students body. So no more discrimination. It’s coming and in the works.
In the mean time the Turkish charters schools are happy that student enrollment is paying off the land and building cost. The plan has always been to repurpose closed schools to Muslim community center/ Mosque, strip malls and medical facilities. So the Turks will be happy that they will continue to make money one the school closes. They will only keep a few as most charter schools will be greatly curtailed in the future.
