Diane ~
Wow, how do you maintain such a pace?
Writing books, interviews, traveling, rallies, blogging 24/7 and globe trotting, sounding the alarms, chiming the warning bells, tweeting, etc.
Please take care of yourself.
We need you!
Teachers need you!
Kids need you!
I agree with H. A. Hurley, please take care of yourself, that’s an incredibly grueling schedule even for a person half your age. But thanks for your passion, intelligence and concern for American public education in this age of corporate reform and privatization of the commons. We really need an army of Diane Ravitches but we are most fortunate to have one Diane Ravitch.
Thank goodness. It is wonderful to see this. Kevin Johnson speaking now on msnbc with nonsense about mayors controlling schools. What are we doing to our children??? We need role models like DR.
Will the David Denby conversation be streamed or on Youtube? Would love to see it.
Are these open to the public? Is there a cost?
Thanks.
I know the talk in RI is open to the public, and free to attend.
I will definitely check out the talk at Edgewood College in Madison. It doesn’t say anything about registering, so I guess it is just open to the public?
OMG, Diane. Your voice is very important to so many people, but you don’t have anything if you don’t have your health. I don’t know how you do it. Please take care of yourself!
Very much looking forward to seeing you in RI! I am going to try to arrive over an hour early because I have a feeling that venue is going to be packed!
I can’t wait to see you in DC. I’m bringing 2 of my cousins who are interested in this reformy movt., as well! Please take care. I don’t know how you keep such a schedule.
Diane – I will see you in Chicago on the 13th. Is there anything at all I can do for you/bring you while you’re here? Ask and ye shall receive.
A hug.
🙂
BTW, just yesterday I purchased two more copies of your book – one for my best friend of 32 years that I’ve mentioned before (she’s a teacher in northeast Indiana) and one for the daycare where my younger daughter goes. It’s black-owned and a lot of the students are black and low income/subsidized. I fear for these kids as they leave the daycare. The daycare is in Oak Park, which has more or less decent schools which haven’t completely drunk the Kool-Aid yet, but many of the kids come from the West Side of Chicago. I see them spending 12 years of their lives silently walking on lines painted on the floor in perfect single file and it breaks my heart.
Dienne, sad to say there are some Ivy-League educated peole who think that African-American kids need to be taught to walk silently in lines as a precondition for entering college. Of course, that is now what they did in their own schooling.
Maryland State Educator’s Association delegates will be in Ocean City, MD Oct. 18 – 19. Would you consider a Saturday evening with us? Best regards, Susan Loftus
I teach Education that is Physical with students at Burning Tree Elementary School.

Terrie, I wish I could but I have no time in October at all.
I attended a talk by an unnamed politician’s mother years ago. She had been traveling the circuit drumming up support for the coming election. As a seasoned campaigner, she did a commendable job until one frightful moment when she referred to our beautiful community in Indiana, probably her next stop. Not a person in the audience let her know of her faux pas. I hope somebody on the campaign took it as a sign that it was time for a break. So, if you have trouble keeping track of where you are (or not caring where you are)…take a break!
I just purchased your book. Best to you on your tour. Do you have any plans to visit the Denver area?
Marian, I spoke at North High School in Denver on September 25.
Do you have any plans for the Cincinnati, OH, area?
Please come to Florida! Rick Scott needs to be around some factual information regarding schools!
Hi Diane, Just wondering if you are planning any other Brooklyn speaking schedules. I am the PTA Vice President at PS32 and we would love to have you come to speak about your book if you are interested in using our auditorium. Naturally, I would have to clear this with our administration but I wanted to check in with you first. Best of luck with your tour! Camille Casaretti
Camille, I am speaking tonight at a public event at Congregation Beth Elohim on Garfield Place and 8th Avenue in Park Slope. I have nothing else on my calendar in Brooklyn. Please come tonight. All are welcome.
Diane, I am an elementary teacher and mother of two who finally had enough and ran against an incumbent who didn’t support our schools. And on November 7, 2012, I became a Florida State Representative! Boy, do we need help down here! Let me know how I can assist you in setting up a speaking tour in our state.
Rep. Karen Castor Dentel, PhD
If anyone is making videos of Diane’s appearances we are trying to gather samples from the tour. Contact me and I’ll give you info on where to upload. normsco@gmail.com
The talk at Dartmouth in NH? IS that open to the public? IS there a fee to get in?
How do we get Dianne to Muskegon, Michigan, home of the first for-profit school district in the country.
Yes! Let’s get Prof Ravitch to west side of Michigan. (Marquette quite a drive.)
Professor Ravitch:
Will you be doing any additional readings (besides NMU) in Michigan?
My schedule reflects both invitation and availability. None from Ann Arbor.
Are there any plans to post any of your talks on youtube? I couldn’t come to see you in Seattle when you were here but would love to hear what you have to say. Thank you!
Does anyone know about Diane’s talk in Madison on November 14th? It looks like it might be at the Orpheum and not Edgewood college. Please let me know if anyone knows for sure. Thanks!
Derrick,
I was invited to Madison on November 14 by Tim Slekar, the dean of education at Edgewood College. Call his office for location.
Hi Diane! ( or The Rav as I like to refer to you as )
I admire your work and have used your voice to keep me sane! Your work offers great hope to many educators, thank you.
I am the president of my local teacher’s association, as well as a teacher in a unique alternative program REAL Academy, and my own children attend Milwaukee Public schools. If you are staying over in Madison on November 14th or flying in or out of Milwaukee, I would love to invite you to South Milwaukee to speak with teachers or visit students or just go out to for coffee or lunch:)
Could you squeeze in a Milwaukee area visit?
-Joanna Rizzotto
Hi, Joanna, I will be in Madison, not Milwaukee. Come on over and visit. I used to think I could do it all, but my body says no.
Hi Diane,
Thanks for the consideration and your honesty. In Wisconsin, teachers regularly travel to Madison to participate in events that are important to them…I will be there!
Thanks Diane. Sorry I just saw this post after I asked again. Ignore my second post.
Hi Diane,
Your post says you are speaking at Edgewood college in Madison Wisconsin, but I am also hearing it will be at the Orpheum. Do you know if this is correct? Thanks!
We need you in Albany, NY!! It feels like the momentum in NYS is picking up! Parents are FINALLY waking up and realizing this is not just a case of teachers being Chicken Little. We would come out in DROVES to listen to you! I am sure the NYS Writer’s Institute would facilitate it in a heartbeat! 🙂
