Ken Previti, a retired teacher, has been watching the evolution of school “reform,” and he wonders when the public will catch on to the schemes and fear-mongering. What is it all about? Sell-sell-sell.
Just doing what business does. Monetizing the children.
The idea of for-profit “public” schools seems completely nuts to me.
Why? As long as they don’t receive any government funding and stand on their own, provide a decent education, and make a profit who cares?
That is the problem. Many for-profit schools are receiving tax-payer dollars.
Yes, I understand, that is why I put the caveat “as long as they don’t receive government funding”. Let’s see them be big boys/girls and stand on their own two feet in the vaunted free market of for profit education. I ain’t holding my breath for for-profit schools to start popping up with that caveat in place.
I have witnessed first-hand where a small group of people are getting rich off of school children and teachers. They have an incentive to provide less in the school in order to make a profit. It is perverse. The teachers are treated like garbage and underpaid. It is an awful example of American education. Heaven forbid that this should become the norm in American education.
DeeDee,
Does the school you reference receive public funding? Also, if it is so bad (and it is a truly for profit with no government funding) then isn’t it really the responsibility of the parents to pull their children out and find another school, of which the local school district would have to take them. If it is a completely not sucking off the teat of government funds school I have no problem with its existence whether good, bad or indifferent because, ultimately it is the parents who have the duty to find an educational source for their children, if they choose to, outside what is freely available to them, the local community public school.
And yes it is abhorrent that someone would make a profit and not provide adequate an adequate education for their students. To me, if they proclaim excellence and don’t deliver that is fraud!
More to the point — What is the role of “School Reform” in making a fast buck?
But I fear that the Public and its Progeny will have to get burned many more times before “School Reform” joins the dis-honor roll of famous scams like the “Pigeon Drop” and “Three-Card Monte”.
The thing missing is the control of the young minds for the “New World Order.” This is the new arrangement of the “Elite” and the rest who will be “Indentured servants in Permadebt” to the elite. When you control the schools you control the young minds and where they will go. Just look at the results of Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Kim Il Jong.
It is creepy when you see this profiteering/privatization agenda being promoted around the world. I couldn’t believe it when I read the articles posted about Chile’s education system. It is the exact same garbage that they are trying to implement here. It is very anti-American. It does not promote the free thinking of the individual-just creepy overall.
It’s simple. These “Education Reformers” are profiting on the backs of our children! They should be ashamed!!
