A group funded by a rightwing think tank calls itself the “Commission on School Reform” and attacks Scottish public schools. The BBC reports the “findings” of the “commission” as objective research, not advocacy.
Sound familiar?

Does Pearson Publishing have a stronghold in Scotland as well??
Marge
The people behind this own Pearson and such. The players are doing this as broadly as they operate their multinational corporations as this is just another part of their plan for world domination. Think about it.
The Europeans in general are far more politically aware and oppositional than we Americans are.
From what I understand, the largest teachers’ union in the UK is planning a protest this summer that can well result in a nation-wide strike.
PLEASE keep in mind that our own American reptilian lizard mouthed Michael Bloomberg owns a very tony flat in a very exclusve part of London, and it is more than clear that he has socialized with his British counterparts and infected them with his privitization virus. WATCH out more for his dealings in London.
British parliament could not care less, and the monarch is a joke, as they take 30 million pounds a year (or is it euros? i forget) from British taxpayers to support their ridiculous lifestyle.
If anyone wants to hear a well rounded abd balanced version about what is happening to education (and nearly anything else) in Europe, be sure not to watch the BBC as much as the Italian, Spanish, or French news. There you will get a much more complete, comprehensive coverage.
England now has a two tier medical and two tier education system, and it’s alarmingly going back to its Edwardian state of inequity.
I’m glad Margaret Thatcher, the long lost twin of Ronald Reagan, is, well, no more.
Robert, I like the idea of the largest UK union planning a national teachers’ strike. Ok–here’s a contest–the first national American union to organize a nationwide teachers’ strike becomes the national union. Have at it, NEA or AFT!
RetiredbutMiss a JarsCamp,
The whole orientation in the USA is non confrontation and avoidance of strikes, alhtough whatever major strikes that are resgional are not getting reported in the mainstream news. . . . Look at the strikes of hte port workers in California for starters and the school bus driver strike here in NY. Whatever coverage there is, it’s either meager or negative.
Read alternative news. . . it’s more available than ever with IT.
No–actually I’m quite aware, Robert, as I do read alternative news–I knew about the school bus driver strike, as well as others. I also find out about such things on the many blogs I read. That having been said, I’m talking about–particularly–a nationwide TEACHERS’ strike (& how about administrators, too?). We need hundreds of thousands out there. CTU was effective in that they had 5,000 teachers out there, clogging up the street, which amazed
not only Chicagoans and Illinoisians, but also the US & the world.
What are we waiting for?
I would love a national strike. Indiana is now a laughingstock because big business has its mitts in education. The Istep is going to be completely invalidated this year!! Brilliant work Bennett and Daniels.
