Matt D Carlo evaluates Néw Jersey’s
decision to take over the Camden school district.
Di Carlo says it may have been justified or not.
But state officials did not make their case.
Sounds like Chris Cerf should hire a statistician.

If I may correct this sentence:
“More generally, these are the types of episodes that create sharp discomfort among those who are nervous about the ever-expanding reliance on test scores {and} or other [supposedly but completely un-] quantifiable outcomes in making high-stakes decisions.”
When there is lots of money and high dropout and low grades the problem is with the mangement at the school and total lack of concern for an extended period of time at the local and state level. These things are easy to see if you look. I always do 10 year spreadsheets to see what is happening through time. If you do not do at least 10 years my experience shows you know nothing. Is this really so hard. When I presented my spreadsheets to an Assembly Select Committee, Superintendent of Education for California and other officials they told me that they had never seen this type of information before which went that deep. Accident, I don’t think so, as I keep them fairly simple so that uneducated people can read and understand them. Facts, kept in perspective, are interesting and informative.
George,
Is it possible for you to send me some examples of the work you are doing?
