Innovation Ohio is a nonpartisan think tank that studies public policy in the state. Its reports are carefully researched and documented.
Its latest study finds that charter schools, a favorite “reform” of Governor John Kasich and the Republican-dominated legislature, cost taxpayers twice as much as public schools and hurt the public schools that enroll the other 90% of the children in the state.

Can’t wait to hear you speak on Saturday!!!
Thank you! I fixed it.
Hmmm…wonder if the same holds true in Michigan? Republicans are pushing for unlimited charters here in Michigan.
GOP in Michigan and Ohio and Louisiana and Georgia and Indiana are working from the ALEC playbook. Unlimited charters, underfunded and hyper-regulated public schools. Help one, kill the other.
The report is only counting state aid while ignoring the fact that Ohio public schools receive lots of local funding (charter schools do not). In other words, the report shows that if you compare the total charter school funding to a fraction of the public school funding, it looks like charter schools get more per pupil. But that’s a very misleading comparison.
