I revealed the title of my new book yesterday and said the subtitle was a secret.
Then a reader commented that he found the book on a website, so my secret is out.
The full title of the book is
Reign of Error:
The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger for America’s Public Schools
I bet you are not surprised.
The bios now on various websites are dated and contain some errors. Several say I am affiliated with the Brookings Institution but I was kicked out last year after a 19-year association because of my alleged “inactivity.”
The book is being edited now, the jacket is not yet designed, it’s very early.
I believe it will have a big impact on the education debate because it documents the failure of corporate reform and offers a dozen research-based chapters on what we need to do to improve our schools and our society.
I wish you great success with this book. It is desperately needed.
I will be buying the hard copy of this book–no ebooks for me.
Congratulations, Diane! We are all looking forward to the release of your next book and the journey forward toward saving the country’s public schools and, thus, the country itself! I am so excited
I preordered it from amazon
Thank you for your voice
Congratulations Diane, quite an impact you have had so far! EA
“The book is being edited now, the jacket is not yet designed, and it’s very early.” (How does a burglar with a money bag or piles of cash falling form the sky with our favorite ‘reformers’ scrambling for the money?)

Hopefully it will be read by all when it comes out (the pols, media people and academics along with the rest of society) and not 5-10 years hence when someone is researching the question: What happened to public education?
have the “reformers” trampling over school children
Congrats!!! Hope Charlie Rose doesn’t wait as long as he did after your other book came out!! And hope he gives you more than 20 minutes!!!
Can we have a contest to come up with book jacket ideas!! I suppose having pols and some union leaders with their heads stuck up the butts of Rhee, Gates, the Koch Bros, Jeb, et al wouldn’t make the cut???
Although they might be…This should be designed for everyone to read and not offended. I like dollars falling from the sky with the pirates scrambling for the money. Think of a rugby match or riot.
But it would make a great education political cartoon. It’s all about the money and pols are willing to overlook reality and sanity to get it. I know I wouldn’t at all be offended seeing the likes of Jindal, Scott, Walker and all the others in that pose because it’s the truth!! Look at how many Democrats are also reversing course and stabbing public school teachers in the back. And I would also add the 2 teacher union leaders as well.
The big question is why aren’t teachers around the country “offended” by what’s going on?? Why isn’t there a national outcry and a “Day of Outrage” by both parents and teachers across the country?? The only heroes I see is Chicago teachers, Hawaii teachers and Seattle teachers. Chicago led by Lewis and the others lead by teachers–not union heads. When teachers lose their collective bargaining rights, then it’s time to fight back hard.
btw, If money were falling from the sky, I would be there too. And so would a lot of good people, especially those out of work due to the failures of Wall Street.
Can’t wait to add this one to my bookshelf!
Hooray for your new book! At long last, American citizens will get to know the nasty truth!

Preordered–Diane, can’t you make them publish it a week earlier so I can read it on vacation?
Just kidding. Can’t wait!
I agree, but I’d like it in July, please.
I like this book better than the common core, and I haven’t read either one! I’m just going with my gut.
I think I read that it comes out in September? Can’t come out soon enough! Looking forward to reading it!!
Game Changer. Grateful you are an advocate for our public education . How can so many others turn their Backs? You are going to change history. You ARE ALREADY changing it with your work.
HA HA INACTIVITY???
I noticed that the subtitle of Left Back was changed. I liked the first one better.
I did not like the subtitle of the original hardcover Left Back. It was forced on me by an editor who was certain that a title with the word “failure” or “failing” or “failed” would sell. I changed the subtitle in the paperback to one that I liked.
Pre-ordered two….I hope to get a signed copy next fall. Thanks for all your support. 🙂
Thank you for your continual painstaking efforts to restore sanity to our public education system. I cannot wait to read your book and recommend it to many others.
Book tour? Are heretics given access to the media circuit?
I hope it is a huge bestseller! Your energy is amazing. I wish you all the best.
A marvelous title, REIGN OF ERROR. Genius. And the subtitle is provocative as well. Whether research can generate remedy remains to be seen, but I’m sure it will be on everyone’s night stand along side Michelle Rhee’s autobiography, published, I think, yesterday. What gall that girl has!
Harlan, this is a different kind of post from you! I like it!
I volunteer to proof read. 🙂
Kudos, Diane! I am so genuinely thrilled about your new book! Where would we be without you? Truly!
Before discoving and reading you I was virtually clueless about K-12 education. You’ve provided the clear and cogent narrative that was desperately needed to guide parents like myself to do the right thing, not just on behalf of “my kid”, but “all kids”. You’ve made me acutely aware that my child’s future is inextricably tied to those of his peers, and that the only way for any family’s child to extract an individual benefit from their school is by fully supporting it as a community resource for all.
My gratitude to you, Diane Ravitch, is heartfelt and boundless. You are the inspiration for all.
Michael Moore is kicking himself for missing the opportunity to put out a blockbuster movie on the subject. Michael, it’s OK if you still want to chime in!
